Opportunities were better in Van. And not everyone gets a chance to travel and work in another country much less get it all paid for by a company. So me and my ex thought it wouldn't hurt to try it for at least 2 years and see how we felt about Canada.
I prefer the lifestyle here over London and it was a major upgrade, There are certain things I do miss about London but travelling to central each day for work is not one of them. I feel fitter, more healthy and at ease here in Van.

Next step citizenship, then I can have two passports. But yeah some of the salaries in the UK are piss takes. Vancouver is expensive but compared to London you can have a very decent lifestyle here.
I also have money I can use from my UK bank accounts for buying holidays etc so it works out even better for me.

But yeah some of the salaries in the UK are piss takes. Vancouver is expensive but compared to London you can have a very decent lifestyle here.
I also have money I can use from my UK bank accounts for buying holidays etc so it works out even better for me.
You ain't lying about the salaries. I'm in IT and some of these companies want you to have all the top level certs in the world (like the CCIE which is such hard qualification to achieve the majority of network engineering experts can't even pass it) and barely paying above £40,000 which is ridiculous. My particular field is cool but could still be a lot better.
Some people will argue that it works out in a way because we have good healthcare like the NHS and also unemployment benefits where your rent and mortgage is covered, but even still many of these jobs should paying way more. What I'm paying for for my flat - and trust me, my rent is cheap compared to what most people are paying - I could easily have a nice house in Medellin.
Lately I have been considering my options. I would have chose Jamaica but it's just as expensive and they need to do something about the crimewave and the targeting of returnees. Maybe one day cos I still love it there.
