Depending how close you were it can take a while, firstly if you really liked her just know some breh is going to be hitting it very soon, and there is nothing you can do about it. It's angering, frustrating and sickening at first. But once that feeling leaves. And you have maybe hooked up with someone new, it's usually plain sailing from there.
You'll still think about her but after a while the strong feelings will fade

Some places hire just off an excellent portfolio. Keep an eye out for job fairs for game and VFX companies. You can talk to recruiters and managers then and there.
The creative business is booming so if you're really good you could do very well if you get in at a decent company. My advice if you haven't already. Get yourself a wacom tablet or something similar and get shyt hot at digital drawing
