Bruh once my contract runs out and they ask me to join full time its :whew:. 23 years old btw*

I'm gonna demand at least 65K. And my manager is mad cool so i think hell give it if I prove myself.

A nikka a Senior...unbelievable. When I told ppl /homies from school they were like :ohhh:

It was funny cause I clicked in my name on outlook then saw Senior Staff/Supervisory and was like :rudy: but figured it didnt mean much. Then when I went to enroll in my benefits program it said overtly: "Senior Financial Analyst" and I was like :ohhh:. Then one day I was in my managers office while he was emailing a person and did the same thing to check if that person was a partner or Snr. manager. He made a comment on it saying titles are important for knowing how to address someone so I asked my manager if me being a Snr was correct and he confirmed...said I could put it in my signature too :ehh:

did you major in finance at mac? and are you working towards any designations (ie. cfa, cpp?)

i chose courses for my final 2 semesters, and neither of them were towards designations. One because i would have to take harder courses (ie. derivatives) and risk messing up my gpa and two, i'm gonna pursue my mba down the line.

i am gonna do my securities course though down the line.

accounting major at mac. I took all except one of the CPA required courses (Commercial Law) which i'll be doing once enrollment within the CPA prep module opens up. Its $400 through then but like 900 through Mac so i figured i'd choose them. Then I gotta go through the CPA testing process and garner my experience which will take two more years. I also plan on getting my CBV during this period ...

I'll probably stay at my current position for 2 years and then try to transfer to the Advisory branch of my firm particularly Transaction Services (reason for CBV) After working there for 3 or so years i'll then probably try to get into some Sell Side roles (Banking, Investment management or Equity Research specifically). If I cant break in i'll consider doing my MBA.

I met a woman once who changed my life. Without her, I couldn’t possibly be the person I am today. That’s what true love does to a person — it changes you and sets your life on a different track.

Some love stories do come with a happy ending, the two spending their lives together, growing old together, and departing this world together. In such instances, the change that they create for each other is clearly visible: without them spending their lives with each other, their lives wouldn’t be what they are.

What I came to learn is that regardless of whether or not you end up spending your lives together, when you find true love, it sticks with you. It changes you and continues to change you as the years go by.

True love can be overwhelming — especially if it’s your first time experiencing it. I remember how incredibly exciting it all was. Every waking moment was filled with loving and pleasant thoughts. The day was brighter. The world, more colorful. Life seemed to be more alive than it had ever been before.

It was the happiest I had been in my life and I am certain that I’m not the only person in the world who recalls a similar experience.

But it wasn’t the good times that left that lasting impression. Of course, I continue to revisit all those great memories from time to time… but it wasn’t the laughs and smiles that changed me most. It’s those more painful memories underlining the good times that changed my reality.

They say it’s better to teach with a carrot than a stick. Yet, though you may not be able to teach someone with pain or punishment, when you manage to inflict pain on yourself, you learn rather quickly.

The problem with the pain that comes from true love lost is that it takes time to form, to build upon itself and become realized. You don’t just break your heart and learn your lesson. Heartbreak itself doesn’t live in a single moment — hearts have the ability to chip and break apart almost infinitely.

What good does come from all this unpleasantry is the opportunity you get to learn more about yourself each passing day. As long as you’re honest with yourself — which can often be difficult — you’ll get an incredibly insightful look into the person you have become.

What this thankfully allows for is the chance to begin constructing the person you want to be. Love lost really does show you the real you.

It shows you what you need to work on and improve on before you’re ready to be a part of a loving and committed relationship. As with all great things, however, there comes a catch.

When you decide to change the way you see the world because of a man or woman you loved, the new reality you create for yourself has that individual imbedded in its framework.

Our minds form chains linking cause and effect — and the life you create for yourself literally ends up hanging on the fact that you were once incredibly in love. Without that love, the joy and pain it made you feel, you couldn’t possibly be the person you are today.

Somehow, while trying to move on with your life, you may find that you’ve managed to make the memory of that past love a permanent fixture.

One that you are forced to look upon indefinitely. You never come out of love unscathed — no matter how the relationship ends. It’s neither good nor bad, it simply is what it is. All you can do is try and find love again.

You know you need to let your past love go — for both of your sakes — and the only way you can possibly do that is to find another love. Your lost love will likely never entirely leave your mind, memories coming to the surface from time to time, but that’s not a bad thing.

The relationship you once had made you the better version of yourself you are today. You loved, you laughed, you cried, you changed your life. You don’t want to ever forget the past that taught you those necessary lessons.

Although it may take time, there is always hope to once again find love. New love has a way of shrouding older, lost loves. One day, that pain will hopefully turn into fond memories you can revisit with a smile and sense of nostalgia.

i fukks with accounting. to me it is integral for financial analysis from an investing standpoint.

Knowing the ins and outs between cash flow/balance sheets/income statements and how they all flow between one another is a great skill to have when picking investments. My passion for the capital markets actually came during my third year after which I was already immersed in my acctg courses. Had an I-Banking Interview with CIBC World Markets...failed and got dead set on breaking into the field lol. If it wasnt for me already doing many acctg courses i probably woulda been a finance major. Since then i'vehoned my skills a ton though and have done some decent networking but its certainly tough.

Had a director even call a hiring manager to recommend me for a leveraged finance role but i was probably too inexperienced and was finishing Senior year (this was probably last February) so i didnt even get called in for an interview :mjcry:

most of the finance courses i've taken or plan on taking, rarely focus on a companies balance sheet, cash flows, or income statements and if they do, its very basic. Its more about stuff like valuation, dividend policies, futures, options, etc.

One thing i feel i lack is a solid background in economics. When i finished my 3 years at seneca in international business, they never taught economics. We were taught accounting, finance, project management, etc. but never economics :dwillhuh:so i find myself slightly disadvantaged when i watch the news or read newspapers and don't understand how a drop in oil prices affects interest rates.

One thing i will do this summer is buy books on economics and finance though cuz I feel a curious mind is better than an accepting mind.

@Asantehene and i might be aiming towards islamic finance. I feel there will be a niche market for it. Also, ryerson will be offering a post-grad 1 year program specifically for those interested in islamic finance which i'll probably enroll in once i graduate.

long-term, i think africa is where its at. I wanna gain as much knowledge and experience as i can here and take it over there to build something.

if i remember correctly just from following the markets...interest rates --> currency --> commodities --> companies

for example:
higher US interest rates --> more demand for USD from treasury purchasers --> appreciation of USD ---> pricier for companies to by Oil from American companies --> Less demand for Oil ---> Oil price tumbles ---> US Oil & Gas firms seeing less foreigner revenue ---> stock price goes down accordingly all things else being equal

oversimplified of cours...but its the other way around...that interest rates affect commodities. It always starts with interest rates particularly in the US. I actually kinda learned that during an I-Banking interview with RBC. The reason is that US Treasuries are seen as the safe haven for investments given their liquidity and safety. If all else fails...people dump all their holdings and purchase US Treasuries for a steady return. The reason stocks have been flying is beacuse the interest rates have been so low in the US since the financial crisis. Thats why if you pay attention to the Fed minutes/meetings...any statements that make it seem like the raising of interest rates will be postponed even a little means will lead to stocks flying. It never fails...look at the news regarding yesterday and youll probably see something regarding it because stocks swung hard midday.

it's also why the USD has flown up (our CAD is TRASH right now)...because the market is anticipating rising rates and thus more demand for the USD.

My homie works in a hospital, he met his current girl at work, she is a fine caring sista. Feast well brotha, Im sure you gonna end up meeting someone at work. The chances are quite high, she mostly going to be a wifey type, to be a nurse you have to have some nurturing and caring characteristics.
