I think you perfectly highlighted the key issue here. There's no duty for social responsibility in this industry.

There's already discussion forming around holding these label executives legally accountable for profiting off music that directly relates to open cases. It's just a matter of defining what responsibility they actually have in all of this, and if this violates artistic expression.

I definitely agree with you, it's certainly the artists' responsibility first and foremost. But whos financing the artists to continue making this music? And who continues to profit after these artists are killed or locked up?

If that is something that happens than so be it but it seems unrealistic. You're asking a label to distinguish fact from fiction in an artists lyrics.

There's really no way for this to end differently, when you are in that specific type of life. Social media is a major part of murders in gang related/gang adjacent killings too, but it's essentially the same kind of behavior that my friends and I engaged in, about 17 years ago, going to parties, knowing we would crash into the other team, with whom all our problems were over the dumbest things. Yet, we would go, and someone would pull a gun, and then it's on.

And then someone gets shot at, or someone gets jumped, and beat up, and on it go. You have to get off that cycle, but for many it's simply too late.

These kids just don't understand that yet, or maybe they do, because their music/content is so nihilistic.

That's a good conversation that should be discussed, labels involvement, liability, and responsibility. But, is this different than Interscope/Death Row/
Bad Boy/Arista/Universal in the 90's?

I totally agree that there is some difference with the Durk genre, those kids are somehow being exploited, and exploiting the labels at the same time, all the while endangering themselves and loved ones, for the mass entertainment of fans, most who DO NOT live that lifestyle.

I hear the Durk and Von stuff, and while I may attach to certain parts of it, I can't listen to that stuff, it's not just dark, it's like destructive and diseased to me. But, it's worse to listen to if you work at Chase and never even saw a gun or went to a funeral?
