Why not? Knicks have been bad for years why not wait a few more? Where not contending while Melos here anyway

The quick fix moves haven't worked for the Knicks why not show patience for once?

Because in order to build around Porzingis in the future you have to show promise now. If the Knicks keep being bad under the guise if "waiting for Porzingis" you run the risk of continuing to scare off top free agents or even worse, KP leaving because he doesn't believe in the Knicks front office.

Don't get me wrong, they don't need to spend/waste a bunch of money and throw away picks. That would be stupid. But they still need to be looking to improve now, with or without Melo.

Only for stupid people.

Good organizations have shown how to build a competitive roster and team. Why people in this thread, and in the league continue to ignore it, is beyond me.

But really, I understand the urge to get this team to 40-44 wins, RIGHT NOW. Like, I get it. You want to stop watching them lose so much. But we already watched them mortgage the future for a couple of shytty wins, short term.

Why not give it some time, and see if we can build a team that's competitive for while?

Okay, I feel you guys.

I'm truly not trying to just be mediocre now.

I also don't think we'll be a lottery team with Melo and a growing Porzingis on the roster. You see a glaring detriment of trying to build a really good team that overlaps both Melo's serviceable years and Porzingis coming into his own?

I'm not trying to throw picks away and compromise our future; I'm also not trying to throw money away at terrible "what if/maybe" players. However, if we can contract some really efficient players and try to accomplish a middle ground between giving Melo the best team possible without destroying our future and also supporting Porzingis moving forward, I don't think it's a dumb compromise.

Why is it an assumption that you have to mortgage the future to get to 40 wins? The Knicks have enough pieces right now and the East is mediocre enough for that to be a reasonable goal without doing too much to get there. If Melo didn't get hurt they might have gotten to 40 wins. Hell, they got 32 wins and lost every single game he didn't play in.

They need to start building now, and maintain steady progress so they're not just beginning to try to build a contender when KP meets his potential. They need to at least be solid so that hopefully they'll just need 1 or 2 pieces when he's in his prime.

Signing Mike Conley is mortgaging the future. Team needs draft picks which in turn are good players on team friendly deals.
