Bring in Thibs only if he keeps who Phil wants to run the Triangle. Have him focus on defense and plays coming out of timeouts or end of games when we need a bucket.
We have to go on a crazy run to have an outside chance at making the playoffs. 20+ more wins or it's not happening. It's frustrating just thinking about it.
20-8 to finish the season.
Thibs isn't my example of premature canning; he's an example of NBA politics getting coaches fired (think Kidd and the Brooklyn drama). Thibs had 5 seasons and won less than 50 games one time and they probably overachieved for most of those seasons under him and he still managed to get dropped for Hoiberg who has Chicago on pace to be pretty much in the same spot (but he has a better roster imo). The premature firings though have been happening for a while too though. Karl and Blatt are both guys I don't like as coaches, but they one is on the hot seat and the other is out because of player politics. Hornacek is a guy I thought did pretty well, but he had 0 PG's due to injuries and he's out a job. Lionel Hollins is another coach I think does a solid job and got jerked prematurely. This ish is happening all over the place.
This is related to the rant but separate. I have no solid proof on this ish, but I think that coaches and players having the same agents is playing into this. Star players have their agents linking them with coaches all over the place. Luke Walton is repped by the same crew that reps Westbrook...he'd have been sought after for that reason even without the interim coach run he just had imo.
The Knicks have a real chance to sell Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook in 2017—New York and (forward Kristaps) Porzingis have his attention, yes—and (team president Phil) Jackson ought to start constructing an elite coaching staff to begin that process with Westbrook and with free agents beyond him.
Walton played under Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers, and ESPN's Brian Windhorst noted sources suggest he will be near the top of New York's wish list.
Landing a highly regarded coach like Walton could go a long way toward attracting Westbrook, as well as other top-shelf free agents, but that hiring is far from guaranteed.
Really? According to Zema we are highly competitive and need Derek back to bring a championship. We have to go on a crazy run to have an outside chance at making the playoffs. 20+ more wins or it's not happening. It's frustrating just thinking about it.
20-8 to finish the season.
