Victim of Racism
I'm a brehette
I still hate Jose and want him off the team, but I give him credit for the great defense he played. Parker was held to 43.8% shooting (10% below his average) and a pretty forgettable game tonight. Mills only got 2 points, which were free throws. 3 turnovers isn't terrible when you're the pg (KP had the same amount). Jose also had 3 boards and 5 assists. I also give Jose credit for taking 9 shots. I don't fault him that they didn't go in because he usually doesn't miss. Most of NY's shots didn't go in against a great Spurs defense. The one thing I fault him for is that he should have taken even more shots tonight because there was at least 2 times that he passed the ball (and to Rolo, of all people) with no time left on the clock. He had a decent game in the things that were in his control. I just want him to take at least 10 shots per game (make or miss), but he won't, so it's still #TradeCalderon 'til he's gone.
'Melo played great defense too. Kawhi shot 42% from the field (10% below his average). 'Melo also had 12 rebounds (5 on the offensive glass), 3 assists, and no turnovers. He stripped the ball from Kawhi and passed to KP. He got the assist, but the box score didn't record the steal. His shots didn't fall early because he was fouled a lot. He deserved way more free throws than the 10 he got (sure did) and he nearly made them all. He did not miss 1 shot in the 4th, which (along with shooting 67% from 3 and making his free throws) helped him get 20 points. He made a great play at the end. Triple-teamed, got it to the best 3-point shooter on the team and 1 of the best shooters in the league. Yea, Jose hadn't been shooting well, but neither was Arron and he made shots late. NY won't come up empty in that situation too often. 'Melo had a great game in the things that were in his control.
Arron's shots weren't falling early (he was doubled quite a bit), but he shot 66% in the 4th. It didn't seem like it, but Green only shot 33% from the field, scoring 5 of his 8 points in the 3rd, so Arron's defense was solid. He also had a great game in the things that were in his control.
KP really helped with his scoring and rebounding. He'll get bigger and stronger in due time to punk LMA (who I despise). KP had a great game in the things that were in his control. Rolo was ok. The bench was good, except Derrick (he's certainly entitled to 1 bad game, especially against the Spurs' defense).
NY's defense was very good, except the 60 points in the paint by SA. The held the #1 shooting team (49.1%) to just 44.1% and the 2nd best 3-point shooting team (38.4%) to 30.8% from 3. They just made some mistakes (none bigger than not getting back when they turned the ball over), which will happen against a great defensive team like the Spurs. As frustrating as they were, NY only had 8 turnovers in the game. SA forces more than 14 per game. Encouraged that 'Melo had the legs to make 3's (he hadn't all season), that NY scored at least 25 points in the 4th again, and that Gallo keeps shooting well. I expect Grant's shot to continue to be up and down, even though it was up tonight. At the moment, I don't have any negative emotions about the loss. Tomorrow morning could be a different story.
