Actually tons of people have said that bout the Jay Z and Nas beef....the whole "Nas won the battle, but Hov won the war" thing has been a constant narrative amongst the rap chattering class for pretty much the entire 20 years since the diss... Jay fans tout his success in the Industry as evidence that losing a tit for tat against Nas did nothing to affect his standing in the game in the long run
And Pusha ain't Nas
Losing a rap battle is like getting dunked on in the NBA...cute for discussion's sake and all that... people still talk about that time Tatum dunked on LeBron in a he ECF a few years back...but LeBron is still LeBron...Hit 'Em Up and Ether ain't no a damn thing to stop Big or Jay from being GOATs...this Pusha track is like one or two teirs below that, and ain't did a goddamn thing to stop Drake from being the defining Hov level rapper of his we era
"Nas won the battle, Jay won the war" has been a constant narrative among Jay stans. That's it.
The two things are completely separate. Drake lost a rap battle. He is also still a major star and/or selling records. Same as any other rapper (LL, Jay, BIG, NWA, etc.) that was on the receiving end of an especially brutal diss record.
Nobody expected "TSOA" to end his career. Hell, I'm the biggest Drake detractor on the site and I told people the day this dropped it wouldn't affect him long term. Check the thread.
And yes, BIG and Jay are still considered GOATS....who severely got fukked up during their respective rap battles.
If you want to argue that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of their careers but again....one has nothing to do with the other.
And as far as Bron....he wasn't crying about getting dunked on for years afterwards. Hell, I'd say we're due for yet another Drake interview complaining that this song is just so mean. And probably a vague allusion to that phantom diss record that would end Pusha T....that he's just apparently too nice to drop.
Who shot ya > hit em up
blueprint 2 = ether
Never mind how ridiculous this is....it has nothing to do with what I said. There has never been a burden on a diss record to impact someone's career long term. I don't even know where the hell that came from.
Fred.
