Let's take a look at our linebackers today.
Linebackers
Fred Warner - Arguably the best linebacker in the league. Warner is a gifted athlete as well as a smart football player as he never takes bad angles, is a sure tackler and as good in coverage as prime Patrick Willis and Navorro Bowman. There isn't much to say as he is an elite player and as long as he stays healthy he can have an All-Pro career with it likely ending in Canton or in the Ring of Honor at mininum. A foundational player.

Potential: A
Overall: A+
Dre Greenlaw - former 5th round pick, he is another draft steal as teams are probably kicking themselves for not drafting him earlier as he was a little undersized at 6 feet and 225. Dre Greenlaw is a good tackler and while he doesn't make the big sexy plays, he is a scud missile who has low key made quite a few game saving tackles and forced fumbles. We will need to work out a contract for him after this season but my guess is that he stays on the team for a long time as he is only 25 years old.
Perfomance: B+
Potential; B+
Overall: B+
Azeez Al-Shaair - 2019 UDFA. Azeez started off as a special teams player but by 2020 had worked his way in as a starter due to excessive injuries and he developed into one of the NFLs better linebackers. He makes more splashy plays, but he also missed a few tackles here and there. But as a third player in the starting trio. He complements the other two players very well.
Performance: B
Potential: B
Overall: B
Oren Burks - Former 2018 3rd round pick with the Green Bay Packers. Burks will play on Special teams mostly but he can also act as a starter in case of injuries or to spell someone like Fred Warner as he has quite a few snaps as a starter. He will get a lot of snaps due to his experience relative to his youth. This was a saavy pickup.
Performance: B-
Potential: C+
Overall: C+
Demetrius Flanagan-Knowles - Special teams player primarily. Another 2019 UDFA, Knowles can spell competently at linebacker if asked too which hasn't been much.
Performance: C-
Potential: C+
Overall C
Curtis Robinson - Will likely be used a specialist. But can maybe develop into a reserve.
Performance: D
Potential: C
Overall: C-
Unit Analysis
As long as the top 3 guys stay healthy they will be part of the leagues most dangerous front seven. What's interesting is that they are different from the front 7 of the Harbaugh years where there were more thumpers who could happen to cover under Vic Fangio. These guys are thinner, rangier, still strong but there is a clear emphasis on closing speed. In fairness it means that power running teams will be able to get some yards on the ground but I think the trade off is fair, as all of these linebackers are pretty good at coverage and have relatively soft hands that can tip or intercept errant passes caused by the pass rush. Also the backups can both get snaps and spell the starters.
