I don't worship nothing but I think people like you like to romanticize about stuff from a bygone day as far activism from stars of yesterday compared to today. It almost always skews to people loving the broker yesteryear stars than today's stars and for that reason IMO it seems to be some jealousy involved.

Jealousy? Really? Comparing folks of today with money who stand for nothing, these same people who if not for those of yesteryear having a backbone and standing up for basic human rights, with no financial incentive, is simply jealousy? There is no way to romanticize fighting for basic equality through civil disobedience and being attacked by dogs, having your family threatened, institutional racism, etc, etc...
Honey you proved my point.
And for the record, those who you refer to as "Broker yesteryear stars" did pretty well financially for their time...they just weren't tacky like most 'stars are today. Something that has dissipated from entertainment, IMO, is class (You're probably unfamiliar w/ it).
And just to reemphasize my point about Jay, I don't expect him to join the social activists of yesteryear who actually made a difference...I expect him to be a business-man...I expect him to make money as that's what's important to him.

Hence why this petition is stupid. Don't just ask Jay to remove his merchandise ask all blacks to do so.

Jay z has the most notoriety though and if he removes his clothing from barney's he won't be hit financially as hard as other black designers. Even if it's only symbolic gesture I think it would be a big deal if jay z did this, but obviously he cares more about what little money barney makes him(compared to the money he has already earned) than standing up for what's right.

Edit: Let me add that he probably cares what white society thinks of him more than what black society thinks.

Its always a way to romanticize something but of course if you not going to try to see it it won't be there. You proved my point as well so I guess we are even. The stars of yesterday did do well but it still wasn't usually the equivalent to what these stars today are doing. I probably don't have class cause I don't agree with you ok if that's what you feel. Well if you know what he about what's all the whinning about? You not in his position so you complain about how you would do this, that, and the other if you were in his position?

The fact that he isn't get any money from this deal, and the profits are going to get tuition money for urban youth, really changes things in my book. When it was said that he was going to be making millions, I was thinking he needs to back out ASAP. Now that I hear he's getting nothing, and needy persons are getting the benefit, I'm not feeling the same.

That still makes the petition silly. "We aren't gonna ask all black designers just 1 of them to pull their merchandise. That's how we'll make a message" it makes no message it's like a Jay-Z boycott and not a Barney boycott

I'm still on the symbolism angle though. I mean jay z is on the front cover of multiple new york newspapers. It would be pretty big if he dropped barneys because as I said it would hurt him less than lesser known designers.

Kid yourself if you want to but nobody from your state can do much of substance so have your fantasies to make you feel better that you aren't that smart. Peace

While I hear the things Belafonte says I really wonder what these dude would do if they were making the money Jay and other celebrities now make. It's easy to be a broke militant and we all see a lot of them. Them dudes weren't making the money these big entertainers are making now so I feel its easier to do what they did back in the day sorry.

Harry Belafonte has alot of money too though :ld:

Well good for him but he got Hov money? Serious question cause its a difference between 20mil and 400+ million. Sometimes at 20 you'll say things you wouldn't when you got FU money and obviously I'm talking in generalities.

Let's not start a petition against THE STORE

Let's not stop shopping there

Let's not organize a protest

No the only way to get justice for this racism is to take money out of Jay-Z's pocket. Money that was for a fundraiser :dead:

You would think the person that has 400+ million wouldn't take sh*t from anyone. You would think :beli: Instead Jay tiptoes around racial issues and kisses white peoples ass like he really needs them at this point in his career. Those Rich Hollywood Jew types be on muthafukka's heads if they step outta line. Say anything or do anything to Jews in the public and see how fast they shut your sh*t down. Jay and other people in Jay's tax bracket are supposed to be like that for us :beli:

You would think that but honestly I don't see why we even give a fukk anymore. Like I tell my grandad or anybody else on this Jay/whatever celebrity should do more stop worrying about them and you show them how it's done. Why you wasting time worrying about these celebrities you could be working on things to make your message be heard just as loud as these cats. That's how I look at it now but it wasn't always like that.
