$550? :patrice:

I forgot how much was PSVR 1 cost on launch day?
$400 if I recall correctly.

I had my fingers crossed that PSVR 2 would release at the same price.
I see what Sony is trying to do though.
They've been putting it out there that the cost of the consoles need to go up so to me it looks like they're starting the price increase with the PSVR2 with whatever mid gen upgrade to the console following suit at $550.
No way do I see them releasing the same exact PS5 for $50 more. Im expecting them to roll out the price increase against a new model (no matter how minuscule the "upgrades" would be).

I'd be more receptive to the $550 if inventory levels of the consoles weren't so abismal still and we had more console exclusive games.
Maybe I'm mellowing out with age but this gen continues to feel like a twilight zone mid-gen upgrade altogether.
I feel like PSVR 2 could easily wait another full year before releasing to give time for customers to settle in with their consoles.

I'm a firm believer in the technology. PSVR 1 blew me away and I'm excited for PSVR2.
It's just a timing situation for me in terms of the games.
The fact that it isn't backwards compatible really discourages me from dropping $550 on release day to only play one game (that I imagine will be more of a tech demo style game than anything, as were many of the launch PSVR games).
Resident Evil Village in VR make PSVR 2 a must buy regardless...I just will end up copping further down the line...who knows...I've been known to complain about this sort of thing and then let my video game nerdiness get the best of me and buy it off rip anyway.

They HAVE to take VR off rails to make a better case for the doubters.
I enjoyed rush of blood, but this trailer disappointed me. I personally didn't need to see a sequel.
The replay-ability is abysmal.
It’s the same problem with all video game peripherals.

Nobody is gonna invest big money in a AAA game for such a small user base.

Sony is trying the sell the thing and they won’t even invest big in software.

Such a restrictive price and people can’t get their hands on a PS5 anyway. What the hell is sony doing with this :dahell:

I'm a Sony Stan but I can't defend this price lol , I'm sure they will receive some sort of lashback and lower the price or offer some kind of bundle.

I agree with you and the last sentence is the most critical to me.
It's like pouring salt on a wound.
"Oh...so you can't find our $500 console anywhere!? How's about this $550 peripheral that requires that $500 console you can't even find to use!"

Maybe it's just me, but I still feel like this "next gen" hasn't even started.
To me, it feels like we're ALL in the beta phase for the real release of next gen, if that makes sense.

I'm not even trying to stan war on this...for Christmas this year, I decided to buy my son a new console.
He has an Xbox 1 S, PS4, and a Switch. I was really going to buy him a Series X thinking, "you know what, gamepass might be good for him".
But then it occurred to me, there is literally, no game that he can't play on his current xbox. And I promise you, this is not a knock on XBOX in any way shape or form. I see the need for the series X and highly recommend it. I love mine and play it often. (Hell, I have 2 of them. One in my living room and one in my game room). For my situation regarding a gift for my son who already has the previous gen consoles, I went with getting him a PS5 almost begrudgingly because at least he could play Ratchet and Clank on his own console...but that was literally the only game that I felt like made the PS5 worth it for him currently...which leads me to circle back to my main point...this whole gen feels sloppy...we're 2 years in and it doesn't feel like new consoles have released at all.

(I was up working until 1:00am last night so forgive me if I'm rambling).

Might cop based on whether the games are recieved well. But on rails games don't do it for me.

Sony has a huge uphill battle here cause their focus is only on games, and they won't have any of the social stuff meta has with their headset.

I think this gen went backwards as compared to last gen. They put out very powerful consoles up front so i don’t see the need for a mid gen refresh. These are already the “pro” consoles the Series s is the base PS4/X1 equivalent.

Games just take longer and longer to make, and the effects of the pandemic were more profound than i think we know.

As far as exclusive games, xbox doesn’t have anymore cross gen games in the works. All of the games coming next year are “next gen” only. Sony on the other hand seems to still want to support PS4 cause they don’t have a cheaper and more available console right now.
