after coming out strong out the gate. A lot of associates of mine have been discussing why should they update after seeing the battlefields, Killzones etc. The issue I think many of the non tech gamers are having is the fact that Graphics are hitting that point of diminishing return, unless you know the difference between 1080p 2x MLAA and 8x. This isn't the 480p-----> 720p era.... where the polygon count doubled and you noticed a significant difference of the mapping on the characters. it's also difficult to persuade consumers to jump at something that is essentially similar to the setup they already have. Innovation in console gaming is what it is going to have to happen to stimulate these systems further then the launch core.

Not to mention mobile, tv, Tablet, PC markets are now much bigger then they were 8 years ago.

those kinds of games show how simple graphics can still make a great game. theoretically they could wrap better graphics around them, and make an even better game

they just announced a sequel set in the early 90s, maybe with all this money they have been making, they will step it up a notch in the graphics.

you nikkas are clearly delusional if you think graphics are hitting a plateau. we are heading straight to photorealism by the end of this decade

I don't know if the consoles are gonna succeed but if they don't, it won't be because graphics aren't getting better. It will be because someone else found a way to exploit the massive leap in graphics in a new way. I think the next 4-5 years will be about the rise of VR. Oculus Rift is just the very first gen. Sony and Xbox will release similar gadgets late next year. Then you'll have other competitors enter the market.

I days of watching games on TV screens will be over. The next 5 years will be all about head mounted display, motion tracking, and actually controlling games with you body rather than a controller.

I think it depends on what else they bring to the table. Better graphics wont cut it anymore. We're gonna need some advancements in gameplay and immersion. Some new play expierinces and stories, not just the same old shootemup. If games can move into a lane where people actually want to "expierince" them not just play them then the console gaming industry will be succesful for a long time.

You won't see a noticeable large jump in graphics until Summer/Fall 2014, when you have games built completely from the ground up on PS4/720.

Right now, most of the games that have been shown seem to have been built for current gen consoles, then ported to next gen.

I disagree with everything you wrote

-You'll be able to notice a difference in the graphics you see at this gens launch and the 2nd half of it.
-Consoles will do well out the gate and hit a short dry spell in sales. Most people do not buy at launch and wait for a price cut or must have game. I doubt either will happen during the first 6 months. They will still be fine n the long run.
-Gamers have consoles and other devices to play games on now so I do not see why they have to choose between one or the other.

Have you seen any of these games from better sources outside of streams? I've watched the vids on Xbox live..they look MUCH better "in person"...there's definitely a noticeable difference...even kill zone in 30fps looks amazing. Battlefield 4 looks damn near too good to be true lol.

I think people can definitely tell the difference when its in person...even casual. But I still think some of the next gen social features along with seamless integration with tabs/phones shouldn't be underestimated. People will dig that shyt more and more as the gen moves along.

How do you watch them on xbox live? I'm trying to do that. I saw the direct BF3 video but I want to see the ps4 games on there. All that sounds good in theory but I bet 720 will have a leg up on the social features. I mean they already do. Plus no youtube.
