Depreciating Asset

Before I answer that, let me ask you something. In the last 50 years what have we accomplished as a community besides being able to sit down in a restaurant with next to a white person?
In 1967, 41% of blacks lived below the poverty line. In 2011, that number was 27.6%. Yes, were are still worse off relative to other races but that is a real decrease in suffering for a lot of people. If in 50 years, if it decreases by another 14%, we will have only 13% living below the poverty line which is the current number for Asian Americans. This is real progress that we should not just shrug off. The decrease in poverty affects people's everyday lives in a positive way. It is extremely challenging to overcome generations of blatant structural racism and discrimination (look at black unemployment in South Africa) and yet we have progressed in real terms.
