Prince is the reason albums have Parental Advisory stickers. 2Live Crew became the face of it, but it was Princes Darling Nikki record that set it off. Tipper Gore caught her daughter listening to it and was so appalled at the lyrics that she started lobbying congress to keep that kind of actual aggressive sexual content away from kids.

Which was hypocritical and racist considering at that same time HEAVY METAL was at its height with Motley Crew Ozzy Osbourne Danzig Twisted Sister and AC/DC whom were far from innocent

Let's not forget the satanic imagery associated with this stuff

Or the trial in which Judas Priests lyrics were said to have influenced the suicide of a young teen

Yeah it was typical older YT lady fear of Black sexuality hysteria. Back then all the most explicit videos on MTV were Van Hallen, Madonna, GNR, hair metal stuff. Those records ended up getting the same treatment, but they weren't being targeted directly, they were collateral damage.

What's funny is that those PA stickers played a big part in the rap boom that happened in the early 90s. Instead of censoring artistic content it became the norm. Kids weren't buying your album unless it had a parental advisory sticker. Only clean rappers like Fresh Prince could eat and that was largely based on his TV/ Movie career.
