At first glance I would say Canelo.

But the more I think about it, BHops knowledge and slickness would probably beat Canelo 7 out of 10 times if they fought.

It's quite hard to pinpoint a prime for Hopkins, partly because he was so good for so long, but also because he changed styles so often, and because so many of his best wins came in old age. I think the best version of Hopkins was the one who fought Tito. That's when he had the perfect blend of aggression and athleticism from his early years, and smarts and discipline from the "Borenard" years. Dropping rounds due to inactivity is largely irrelevant here. That's mostly a feature of what I would consider past prime Hopkins.

So how would Hopkins do against Canelo? Wide decision, at least in the 116-112 range. I just can't unsee that Floyd fight. Hopkins footwork and right hand leads would give Canelo nightmares. There's no way prime Hopkins would struggle with a plodder like Canelo. Not only would Hopkins have the edge in terms of footwork and pure boxing ability, he would also have the edge in terms of dirty inside stuff. This would just be another one of the many 'I told you so' moments in Hopkin's career.

7-5 b hop is prolly the most likely outcome. But it's hard to gauge when b hop was at his best because at 154 he never really fought any truly top tier fighters. The Tito fight is one of my favorite performances of all time. I prolly seen the shyt a hundred times. But Tito was still an overblown welterweight with horrible boxing IQ. B hop was able to use his size to bully a lot of his opponents. So it's hard to say whether b hop looked so dominant because he was actually in his prime or simply cause the competition was so weak there in his early career.

Once he started fighring guys who could match him physically you seen him struggling. And the best version of canelo is his current 168 self. Great defense. Fast hands. And legit knockout power. B hop would have fought this version of canelo the same way he fought jermaine Taylor. Pot shotting. Low punch output. Hesitant to come inside. Canelo's upper body movement and counter punching would have made b hop very reluctant to let his hands go. It woulda went down to the wire just like most of his fights against "elite" guys.

I mean ask yourself how many truly great fighters did b hop ever dominate?....And I love b hop. But he was never really invincible like that. He just fought too cautiously to make me believe he could dominate a guy like canelo. He lost to Jermaine Taylor cause he was so nervous about Jermaine's power. And Jermaine was nice but never special. And certainly not the fighter canelo is. And he legitimately beat Hopkins. The same Taylor that got ko'd by pavlik and carl froch. And arguably lost to Cory spinks. People are looking back on b hop with rose colored glasses if they think he could wipe out the current version of canelo like Floyd did. I place b hop as an ATG because of his longevity more than anything. But I don't think he ever had the pure talent of a Floyd Mayweather. So you can't even compare those matchups.

I think Andre ward woulda been a MUCH tougher fight for canelo. Cause even if he wasn't as defensively sound as b hop. I think he was physically stronger and was never hesitant to bang on the inside. I think he simply had more grit than b hop at 160+. And he woulda been a nightmare for canelo. I would also take prime ward over prime b hop in a head to head match. That would be an even better thread to make imo:yeshrug:

you can pinpoint bhop's prime - id say from maybe 1995 until maybe the joppy fight - bhop was a motherfukker to deal with in the ring esp after the 2nd mercado fight..bhop was a late starter and he had one of those extended physical primes..but after 2003 its pretty much what most ppl remember bhop for in the ring though

Trinidad was undefeated and everyone picked him to win. They thought he would win and then meet Roy Jones at 168 for the super fight. I remember all the hype and expectations like it was yesterday.

You just said b hop would do canelo like he did pavlik and you talking about nonsense :mjlol:

And I vividly remember you multiple times saying b hops middleweight competition pre Tito was trash. But then again that's when you were trying to defend little g's weak ass title run and trying to pretend little g was on the same level:mjlol:

And I was always one of b hops biggest stans on sohh. Him and winky were the main guys I stanned during those days. But that doesn't mean I gotta pretend he had no flaws. The facts are the facts. While I love bhop and I still place him much higher than canelo all time. he still struggled greatly with lesser fighters than canelo. shyt, he LOST to lesser fighters than canelo. That's just the truth. Thinking b hop would do canelo like bum ass Kelly pavlik is just ridiculous. But we already know you're never giving canelo props. I would still favor him head to head vs canelo but it would be no domination. Whether you agree with that I don't really care :yeshrug:

Don't get it twisted. That's prolly my favorite boxing performance of all time to this day. And I told everybody b hop was winning that fight. But in no way shape or form could b hop do that vs the current version of canelo. B hop vs canelo would look more like Taylor vs b hop. Two guys picking their spots and trying to figure eachother out for 12 rounds. It would be boring as hell and go down to a controversial decision.

its funny how supposed bhop stans don't know shyt about his career :dead:..some stan...bhop fought at 154? news to me :laff:..that alone invalidates the post...everything else is just canelo caping via proxy and talking out your ass....as usual...you're in the minority opinion of shyt like this..as usual..stick to caping for canelo :umad:

i have no idea how triple gawd entered this...he wasnt mentioned :umad:

Well obviously I was talking about 160. I'm high as fukk:yeshrug:....But yea I didn't know b hop had longest middleweight title reign in history. Even though I've talked about it numerous times and celebrated when canelo kept your boy from breaking it. You got me :comeon:

And all your old posts are still there. You said yourself pre Tito that b hops competition was weak. Those are your words:yeshrug:

And I will continue caping for the p4p king:myman:

bhop handing the first KO loss to Tito (in his prime) at the tail end of his own prime and handing the first KO loss to Oscar (in his prime) while being slightly past prime >>>>>>> then canelo has done with ATG fighters to this point

thats pure facts

Not even just KO loss for Tito, his first L period. As much as people shyt on Tito now(the criticisms about his boxing are still valid) he cleaned up two weight classes before he finally took an L to X. Hell that win alone is probably better than any Canelo win.

canelo does not have a win to match either....esp prime fighter wins...it would open up some convo that would make it very hard for some to "make it make sense" :youngsabo:
