14. 33(22)-0-0 vs... Arturo "Thunder" Gatti 39(30)-6(2)-0
June 25th, 2005

230px-Gatti_vs_Mayweather.jpg
Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant were both very vocal in their disapproval of seeing their idol go in against the young, athletically gifted Mayweather. As it stood, if Gatti wanted to keep his title, he would have to go along with this bout. Some would say weight played a part while others say the separation in skill was simply too wide. Widely labeled as one of the most ruthless and 1-sided bouts in championship history, it's worth noting that after the bout, Mayweather would continually label Gatti as a warrior and a tremendous boost to his career. RIP champ.

Don't, DO-NOT, judge a book by its cover. On that same note, never judge a fighter by his or her record. Emmanuel Augustus is one of the most tragic tales of mismanagement of an ultra talented athlete in boxing history. While only 2 years older than Mayweather, he had already doubled Floyd's professional experience. Floyd has said numerous times on record, despite facing current and future hall-of-famers, that this was the toughest fight in his illustrious career.

12. 28(20)-0-0 vs... Jose Luis Castillo 46(42)-5(4)-1 (The Rematch)
December 7th, 2002

MayCast2FP.jpg
The 1st fight was a low point in the career of Floyd Mayweather Jr. It was the closest and most controversial victory he had and arguably will ever have. Instead of electing to take other fights or play the waiting game, these two struck up an immediate rematch to answer any further questions as to who's the better fighter. This was Floyd's 2nd fight at Lightweight and was now coming in as the defending champion against a jaded, ex-champion seeking revenge. Injury free and on a mission to once again prove himself, Floyd was looking for confirmation of his previous victory over Castillo.

11. 40(25)-0-0 vs... "Sugar" Shane Mosley 46(39)-5-0
May 1st, 2010

Mayweather_vs_Mosley_Official_Poster.jpg
Whoever said that championship titles make big fights, lied. This was due to the WBA's incompetence, and not much has changed 7 years later. Shane Mosley was past his prime though was on a 3 win streak and had just scored the upset and possibly knock-out of the year against WBA "Super" champion, Antonio Margarito. The build-up began back in Shane's lightweight conquest where Mayweather had called him out to fight early in his career. Who knows how that would have transpired as both had not peaked but were great champions in different weight classes, but we were getting the match fans debated about for years.

the days where you could either see floyd fight on a tuesday or in this case saturday afternoon on KO nation..augustus made floyd look foolish for good parts of the fight..he broke his nose..bloody mouth too i think then floyd had to bite down and really whip his ass..one handed

10. 36(24)-0-0 vs... Carlos "Tata" Baldomir 43(13)-9(1)-6
November 4th, 2006

230px-Mayweathervsbaldomir.jpg
Baldomir? Baldomir?! Seriously? Yes, seriously. He was the man who beat the man, fair and square and was on quite a run. Apparently he wasn't the undisputed champion because he was never given the option to pay all sanctioning fees against Super Judah. When hearing about all time great defensive performances, it seems this fight gets overshadowed by "reasons". People gave Mayweather unfair criticism for taking this fight as well as his performance, all because he didn't KO Baldomir despite injuring his right hand around the 6th. This was also Mayweather's only fight to my knowledge without his father or uncle in his corner.

9. 18(14)-0-0 vs... Angel "El Diablo" Manfredy 25(20)-2(1)-0
December 19th, 1998

Angel, Devil, whatever he called himself at the time, was no joke. He had notable wins over guys like John Brown, Jorge Paez and fan-favorite, Arturo Gatti. Despite Floyd's victory over Genaro Hernandez, he was still viewed as inexperienced and young. Facing another strong, young, lion was going to be the test even though he had just... well you know the narrative. Only thing is... 130lb Mayweather was a BAD...BAD...MAN.

15. 47(26)-0-0 vs... Manny "Pac-man" Pacquiao 57(38)-5(3)-0
May 2nd, 2015

Mayweather_Pacquiao_Official_Poster.jpg
Here it is, the long awaited, highly anticipated match-up of a lifetime. This match was damn near a decade in the making and seemed to take that long to negotiate. Mayweather was the undisputed champion while Manny was swinging his way back up the P4P rankings after a devastating KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez years prior to this match. Did expectations, hype, and a controversial injury ruin this mythical match-up? I'd say it did not, however, it may have hindered its chances to be talked about as the all time greatest fight of either man's career.

I agree
Fight gets a bad rap because how easily floyd won, and because he won period.
First 8 rounds were very good.
Manny realized he had no chance after that

8. 46(26)-0-0 vs... Marcos "El Chino" Maidana 35(31)-4(0)-0 (The Rematch)
September 13th, 2014

Mayweather_vs_Maidana_II.jpg
The first fight was full of action and was a lot closer than anyone would ever imagine. Maidana proved he was there to win and could hang with the best fighters in the world. After the fight, Mayweather complained about his legs not feeling well and many thought he had finally succumbed to Father Time's pull. This was a fight Mayweather himself watched again (something he rarely does) and decided that it needed immediate closer. This bout also was the first time we sensed a rift between Mayweather and long-time friend Leonard Ellerbe...

7. 41(25)-0-0 vs... "Vicious" Victor Ortiz 29(22)-2(1)-2
September 17th, 2011

Victor_Ortiz_vs._Floyd_Mayweather.jpg
Ortiz had fully regained his status as a top fighter in his weight class by out fighting Andre Berto, who at the time was being set up as Mayweather's next opponent. This, to my knowledge was the last time Floyd actually came into the fight as the challenger and not the champion, or belt holder of any kind. We had seen Mayweather actually get seriously hit and hurt early on against an aged Mosley, so could a young and hungry champion fresh off the fight of the year finish the job? If nothing else, this was the most entertaining post-weigh in stare down I may have ever seen. I warned peeps back on the sohh days (or ahh, wherever I was) that this fight would ruin Ortiz for good... would it?

6. 35(24)-0-0 vs... Zab "Super" Judah 34(25)-3(1)-0
April 8th, 2006

295px-Floyd_Mayweather_Jr_vs._Zab_Judah_%28poster%29.jpg
I don't know about "Sworn Enemies" but these two were very familiar with one another coming up in the amateur ranks together. Both were highly touted, athletically gifted athletes destined to be world champions. Judah was coming off of a very disappointing performance against unheralded Carlos Baldomir and lost all of his titles except for his IBF. This fight was already planned out before the Baldomir debacle thus went ahead regardless of that fight's outcome. Floyd was facing an opponent that could match his speed and was a harder puncher, but would it be enough?

5. 17(13)-0-0 vs... Genaro "Chicanito" Hernandez 38(17)-1(1)-1
October 3rd, 1998

hernandez-mayweather.jpg
Genaro Hernandez had only 1 loss at the time to future hall of famer, Oscar De La Hoya, 3 years ago. Floyd was a proven talent, but still had a very young record at the professional level and was facing the best Super Featherweight in the world at the time. This would be Hernandez's final bout. When he would later pass away, Mayweather chose to pay for the funeral and any fees attached. RIP champ, without this opportunity there's no telling how long Floyd would've had to wait to prove his excellence inside of the ring.
