The Spanish are laughing their asses off at the Dominicans. :mjlol:

Dominican society has bought into Spain's white supremacist standards of civilization and prosperity hook, line, and sinker and are now deporting its own citizens because of them. They're stripping citizenship from citizens who were born in the DR, have lived in DR their entire lives, and who speak Spanish fluently solely because they have more obvious afrocentric features and are of Haitian descent.:what:The government is doing this to its dark-skinned citizens in the name of "ethnic cleansing" so that Dominican population will eventually look "Dominican" (i.e., white and Spanish).:francis: This is being done despite the fact that ALL Dominicans (regardless of skin color) share the same AFRICAN heritage.:skip:The law is a mechanism of white supremacy, plain and simple. Any other reasons given for the law are merely pretextual. The government had racist intentions for creating the law and now the law will have a disparate impact on Dominicans based on skin color and ancestry.
Ironically, most native Dominicans would be considered "black" if they were in the US. :russ:And the Spanish have and will continue to look down on Dominicans, no matter what. :heh:

This is what the hybrid of self-hatred and racism looks like on a macro-level basis.:scusthov:

When will Dominicans understand that they're NOT Spanish and that they're NOT white?

These are sad and sorry people, word to Trujillo and Balaguer.

:scust: at the posters who :cape:for what Dominican Republic is doing to its black/Haitian citizens and cosign the law.

The Dominicans have an identity that's different from the Spanish and different from the Haitians.

They're allowed to protect it

There's a difference between protecting one's identity and stripping a quarter million people's citizenship solely because of their skin color and heritage.

The law is racist and the whole "protecting our identity" reason for the law is merely pretextual. There are other, least restrictive measures that could be taken to achieve that goal.

How would you prefer the DR achieve that goal?

I'm genuinely curious for alternatives

Grant automatic citizenship to people born in the DR.

As for people seeking to become Dominican citizens, have them take Spanish literacy exams and Dominican history exams.

Moreover, the law doesn't have to stretch back to 1929. The government can use 2010 or so as a cut-off.
