To address you're earlier point. I dont think they'll have a hard time winning in the future. Hell, they lost and they STILL won the Senate and gained some house seats.

The party is largely getting behind Trump's baseless claims and because of that they will be able to retain the Trump base moving forward. They're fine. If they play their cards right they'll be able to keep their hold on government in 2022 and make Bidens administration pretty boring. Setting republicans up for a good shot at the white house in 2024.

Republicans could have said back in 2015-2016 that Donald Trump doesn't represent our views and the direction we want to go as a party and distanced themselves from him then.

They chose not to do that and it was a joke to them until it wasn't anymore. They underestimated those redneck hicks that harbor a lot of racist attitudes and someone like Trump and his rhetoric was music to their ears.

Establishment guys like Reagan and G. H. Bush were more tactful, but they spoke the same language minus Trump's bravado, overt racism, isolationism, and nationalistic approach.

The Republicans have courted that demographic of people since the 60s and the Southern Strategy. In fact what Trump is doing now is not much different than what Reagan was doing in the 80s with his comments on welfare queens and Trump's law and order which was Reagan's War on Drugs.

They know without MAGAts they don't have much a of a base left so they're trying to cling to him. They made their bed by latching onto Trump like some spineless bytches so now they have to stick with it.

It’s not that latched on to Trump. The GOP has been cultivating these MAGAts since the late 60’s. Their whole strategy has been to manipulate the fear and anxiety that whites have of black prosperity. But like Obama taking their health care idea, the ACA, they have nothing else. Then here comes Trump doing exactly what he said he could do. Run as a Republican and take over. He came in and took their base, and set free all of deplorable instincts. So they don’t know what to do now because they probably can’t control that base now.
