This might be one of the biggest political disasters in History. McCarthy clearly has a fragile ego and is in denial. But he keeps wanting to be embarrassed over and over again that's on him. They've told you 9 straight times, THEY DON'T WANT YOU. He doesn't have the votes and he believes he can wear down MAGA. Also LOL @ Trump losing again. I called this Civil War years ago. MAGA has taken the party off a cliff, they deserve all this. Another huge Popular Vote loss is coming in 2024. I've never seen anything like this for Speaker. Which is normally voted on and solved in one damn day. If Republicans want to continue to be high jacked, let them. Keep Hakeem's winning streak going. 9 in a row. He had the most votes 9 straight times. This game of chicken is pathetic but it's showing the whole Country who they really are.

The Deep State
Conspiracy theory time with no evidence: We got a billionaire or several bankrolling chaos with these freedom lovers? Perhaps saw an opportunity with these stupid rednecks and just seeing how hard they can push the government into chaos?
Nothing important has really happened yet though that requires congress. We're technically still in "Election" stoppage time.

Not altering the filibuster or removing it

That's a pretty weak "both sides" type answer, especially given how much progressive legislation has historically been passed even with the presence of the filibuster.

But what benefecial bills would you say in particular were halted as a result of failing to remove the filibuster?

Demd had 60 votes for the ACA.

If you are talking more recently, there are only 2 vocal dems (maybe a few more silent ones) against eliminating the filibuster. How many Republicans would vote to eliminate the filibuster?
