Given how federal grand juries work, and needing to flip witnesses. If Garland got confirmed on Jan 21, 2021, appointed Smith on Jan 22, 2021, it would have been a miracle to have this indicted my Jan 2022.

BREAKING: Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy torches MAGA Congressman Matt Gaetz over his underage sex scandal, says that he lost his Speakership because "one person wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old."
But he wasn't done there...
Speaking at Georgetown University, McCarthy blamed his humiliating ouster from the Speakership on the Florida congressman and alleged predator.
His blunt statement that Gaetz worked to remove him to shut down an ethics probe into the accusations against him is a major escalation in the feud between the two men.
"Did he do it? I don’t know," said McCarthy.
These are the most explicit attacks that McCarthy has launched on Gaetz to date and they clearly indicate that he believes the allegations of underage sex trafficking.
"Kevin is a liar," Gaetz said to Politico in a statement. "Which, actually, is why he isn’t speaker. Just ask any of the 224 people who voted to remove him."

What were the exact charges his friend got hit with? What is the human trafficking statute? I see a lot of people who have no idea how federal criminal law works making broad assertions like this, who don’t actually know anything about federal criminal law.

ROBERT F. KENNEDY Jr.’s campaign has fired one of its campaign officials who recently said her “number one priority” is defeating President Joe Biden, and that Kennedy’s campaign was the “best strategic opportunity to block Biden” from getting reelected over Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, the Kennedy camp quietly announced that Rita Palma had been removed from their roster.
“We terminated her contract for misrepresentation immediately upon seeing the longer video in which she gave an inaccurate job title and described a conversation that did not happen,” Kennedy campaign director Amaryllis Fox wrote on X.
On April 5, Palma, presenting herself as a New York state director for the Kennedy campaign, told a group of Republican voters that “the only way that Trump can even [have a] remote possibility of taking New York is if Bobby is on the ballot. If it’s Trump vs. Biden, Biden wins. Biden wins six days, seven days a week. With Bobby in the mix, anything can happen.
“Whether you support Bobby or Trump, we all oppose Biden,” Palma said. “And my thoughts are that’s the number one priority in the country. I’m going to vote for Bobby. However, if I wake up Nov. 6, and Trump wins, I’m not going to be overly upset. But if Biden wins, we’re all going to be terribly upset because he’s ruining America. And the people that control him are ruining our country.”
On Monday, Fox tried to distance Kennedy from Palma’s comments, and rebuked her claim of being a state director for the campaign — but did not clarify whether or not she remained employed with the campaign.
“Rita Palma was hired a couple of weeks ago as a ballot access consultant, responsible for scheduling volunteer shifts during our upcoming signature collection drive in the Empire State. She has no involvement in — or access to — electoral strategy, nationally or in New York,” Fox wrote, adding that “the video circulating was not taken at a campaign event. Palma was speaking as a private citizen and her statements in no way reflect campaign strategy.”
The official announcement of Palma’s ouster from the campaign comes the day after CNN reported on social media posts revealing that Palma attended “Stop the Steal” rallies in the aftermath of the 2020 election, and was present at a pro-Trump rally near the Capitol on Jan. 6.
The posts also revealed that Palma had heavily promoted conspiracy theories regarding false claims of election rigging by President Biden, and often referred to Trump as her “favorite president.”
While the Kennedy campaign has fired Palma, it’s unclear to what extent they were aware of her political leanings before hiring her. According to Palma, she explicitly told Kennedy’s campaign that she would only join them if she was “allowed to preach” that “we want to get rid of Biden in New York state.”

When environmental attorney and noted conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. jumped into the presidential race in the Democratic Primary, former President Donald Trump and his associates cheered him on. But now he's running as an independent instead, they're divided over whether to promote him or stop him, unsure of whether his presence will hurt or help their campaign.
According to reporter Marc Caputo for The Bulwark, "For months, the conventional wisdom has held that Kennedy was more of a problem for Democrats — that he would siphon votes from President Biden. The Biden campaign launched a full-scale assault on Kennedy, defining the scion of Democratic royalty as a 'stalking horse' for Trump, filing election complaints against the independent’s campaign, and trying in some states to block him from qualifying for the ballot."
However, while Kennedy does have the name of a distinguished Democratic political family and has pushed some liberal policies like on the environment, he has by and large focused his campaign on appealing to the far right — with his attacks on medical science that sometimes veer into anti-Semitic territory, and his defense of the January 6 rioters.
And now this has some, but not all, of Trump's supporters worried that overall he'll pull more votes from Trump than Biden.
“A year ago, everyone thought Kennedy was a good thing. Not everyone thinks it’s a good idea now,” a GOP operative who advised Trump told Caputo, saying at the time they saw him as a parallel to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a politician Kennedy has praised. "The challenge today with Kennedy is he is appealing to the ‘go-f--k-the-world’ voter, which is a portion of the Trump coalition. And that’s the challenge. The Kennedy base of support is still closer to a Bernie-type voter, but Trump won some of them in 2016."
As a consequence, many conservative outlets that were once hyping Kennedy are now trashing him as a liberal.
All of this comes as Democrats, watching early polls that say they could in fact lose a significant percentage of votes to Kennedy, are gearing up for an offensive of their own.
"Democrats have waged a two-front war on both Trump and third-party candidates. Now that the group No Labels has quit its effort to recruit a presidential candidate, the Democratic National Committee, two Biden super PACs, and the group Third Way are planning to focus more negative attention on Kennedy," wrote Caputo.
For his part, Kennedy has proclaimed his campaign "a spoiler for President Biden and for President Trump," a shift from his previous claim he would mainly take votes from Trump.
