I wonder how long the other guys knew he was leaving. I don't think he would keep them in the dark but who knows. Never watched HQ so that's not a big deal to me but I can see some fans getting up in arms about it. It seems like ESPN dared him to leave and he accepted their challenge. The culture at ESPN must be dreadful but I'm sure the money is hard to turn down.

Either he has something in place that may debut later in the year or he might step away to focus on starting a family. It would be wild if Stugotz decided to re-up with the network but I can't see him doing it. He loves the exposure but the Stugotz character doesn't work without Dan. But they always said they would split one day and today may be that day.

He must have something large coming because the producers besides Mike probably don't make a substantial amount for him to justify leaving his contract, especially during these times. I have Sirius so I'm hoping it's that, but if it's Spotify or some other venue with a pay wall, I may have give the show deuces. I know that reddit fan base was talking about paying upwards to $20 a month for this shyt.

I just don't see how they're going to make it work without those ESPN personalities. I guess they'll have people from other networks on, or knowing Dan, not even discuss sports. It's wild that they started that big podcast network last year and now that shyt is bushed.

I know we shyt on the show for its drop in quality, but it definitely made the work day go a lot faster. For the longest, 9 AM - 1 PM would breeze by.

Everywhere...You never there.
..
that morning show with key and jay is trash

Shyt is beyond trash ... :snoop:

Glad those black men got a bag ...but they are ABSOLUTELY UNEQUIVOCALLY TRASH on that show! :damn:

I only listen outta force of habit regarding that time slot , and to see how cringe that shyt is gonna be . When I keep thinking I’ve heard the most cringe , ridiculous nonsensical statement , there’s another morning where it gets topped . :snoop: Bless Zubin’s heart .

Dan had a nice run but it was well past time ... need a new fresher voice and I know it’s someone out there . Just a matter of identifying the talent .

I definitely believe Stu had an idea about what was about to go down ... not sure about everyone else .

it's always amazing how these corporations over time ruin the things that make them money

suits really just can't sit back...gotta interfere because their "ideas" are that great :stopitslime:
my thing is, ok, fine, i can halfway give them a break for wanting to be more "real sports" but what shows or talent do they have to bring younger, more diverse, listeners/viewers into the fold and build loyalty amongst them? everything they're promoting/moving toward is like a double down on appealing to 45-70 yr old white men. maybe they feel radio is a lost cause for gen y and gen z :manny:

The way the podcast thing was talked about I was under the assumption it was a venture that belonged to Dan. Most of the pods are under Espn except the Greg Cote one that has the aesthetics of the brand. In all honesty though I’m not following where he’s going especially if he’s bringing Mike Ruiz. I feel bad for two people Stugotz and Roy. For years Stugotz had a family that he made sacrifices for that Dan would shyt on. Roy I feel bad for because he’s black and the only one how do you think that’s going to go. I think a lot of them were making enough money to at least start families of their own when you look at it especially considering non of them probably had experience in the field before the national fame.

not sure why people feel sad for these people if the show ends (ie no spotify/apple podcast or sirius deal awaiting), that's entertainment, shows end, you move on.

  • mike and roy are producers, sure they may take a pay cut but radio stations/shows and podcasts need producers everyday B.
  • billy could easily become talent of his own - you gotta work your way up taking this route, but he has a big head start having been on LBS.
  • chris cote was a nepotism hire, having the right dad in the right industry...not sure what skills he has, but i don't feel particularly bad for an under-skilled white guy who got a great gig because of his dad's connections.
  • tony seems very junior in his career, he will be shuffled elsewhere on espn or find some other entry level radio role.
  • gotz has money, both from the show and supposedly from other dealings, he has the ability to remain gotz or pivot back to being jon weiner - more serious sports guy, i definitely don't think it's the end of the road for him on radio if the show is truly done

none of these guys are about to be sitting on skid row, i can't find it in me to be a woeful about folks in entertainment wrapping up a production and having to move on

i missed the first 10 mins - did they address the show ending?

They do it in the Big Suey.

Comments like Billy saying "I didn't get a buyout" when discussing what something costs, maybe getting the "with Stugotz" changed in the next venture & talking about how dependent on clicks they're going to be now after making fun of Greg Cote's begging for clicks confirms my assumptions that ESPN bought out the remaining time on their contract so they're free & clear to do the next thing and the next thing is already lined up.

I don't know the political affiliations of the new power at ESPN but I think it's as simple as them taking the criticism too heart that ESPN was getting too liberal and we know Lebatard is a line stepper in that regard so I wonder if they are trying to make an example out of them. I also wonder if that's why Mike started speaking up a lot more in regards to touchy race issues and providing the other side of the argument.
