Yeah, the Simmons thing is all kinds of different. I remember he was on the show calling Goodell an incompetent liar and literally daring someone at ESPN to do something.

He was utterly convinced that Grantland was a runaway hit, and didn't understand that while 30 for 30 may have been career defining level work for him, that shyt was just another piece of ESPN's legacy that they really didn't need him around for once they completed the first wave.
Yeah but ESPN needs Simmons creativity and risk taking

The ringer infinitely more interesting than ESPN.COM

Simmons' creativity was massively overstated. Really, his strength is that he has a good eye for potential talent. A lot of that first wave of Grantland hires turned out pretty well.

But The Ringer fell off HARD from the Grantland days. They're okay, I suppose. But their non sports content (and their sports content that's written in the same style as their non sports content) is borderline terrible.

I agree that ESPN could use some sort of creative shakeup, but that shyt isn't coming any time soon with their current regime.

I notice Mike Ryan is only ever disturbed by black issues.

He gets up in arms about women's issues (called Lavar a straight mygonist), but, doesn't seems to think Joe Rogan is problematic in the slighest--he gets pretty close to white supremist.

He was fukking glowing.

The male Oprah :mjlit:I'm a fan but I know Joe does weird shyt at times.

His last name is Ruiz but he goes by his middle name Ryan. That should tell you everything you wanna know about the guy.

I remember Dan saying he took less money just so he could have the ability to say what he want and not have ESPN completely control what he says.

And it's not like he said anything scandalous.

A journalist went journalist. If ESPN wanted a fukking puppet to do and say everything they wanted, they should've hired some of the 20,000 other boring ass sport radio personalities out there and be shocked when nobody watches the shyt.
