As broken down as Taker may be, his streak is a huge marketing tool every year. I expect him to retire with it still intact because, like him or not:

(1) that character is probably Vince McMahon's greatest and most consistently over creation; and

(2) no wrestler has been more loyal to Vince for a longer period of time.

Vince has a ton of respect for Undertaker and the streak has made both of them a lot of money. They won't just toss it in the bushes.

If someone ever does break the streak, it'll be someone who they see as the undisputed face of the company, the absolute top guy, for at least the next few years. I think he'd even have to be Taker-approved. I don't believe anyone sees Punk as that guy.

As far as Rock goes, I'm a huge fan, but I think Punk needs the win a lot more than he does. Rock is way beyond needing a win over anyone.

It's NEVER been about Rock needing a win. It's about MONEY BEING MADE. And guess what? Other than shirt sales, Punk isn't carrying the industry like that. Rock does two shows a year and they sell the fukk out every single time and bring in HUGE buys. And his last appearance blew everyone away on the rating chart again at Raw 1000. CM Punk NEEDS it more? He can't get no bigger or better than what he's done. That's the truth.

Punk and Taker was mediocre the first time around but the streak vs. streak storyline could give the match more depth and invoke more emotion from the crowd. I can't see them building up Punk this long just for them to let the streak come to an end at any other ppv than Mania. Yet these days booking seems to be based on outsmarting smarks these days. I wouldn't be surprised if Punk does win at the Rumble via #fukkery but Rock get the strap at Elimination Chamber only to defend it against Cena at WM.

its the same thing tho. you do taker vs punk, taker isn't defending that title either, just like the rock isn't if he won it, since taker wrestles like 2 matches a year. and phil is not going over taker.

Punk promos going into a Taker match :whew:

Taker wouldn't even need any mic time. Hell, he wouldn't even need to show up for half of the road to mania. Punk should do a legends thing and face people Taker beat in the streak. Who would even do it, tho?

Rock/Cena II is what it is. Gotta get that money and have Cena go over. The build up would be strong again and the E-Verse gonna soak it all up. Kids will cheer, adults will boo, IWC will net :yeshrug:

Regardless of what happens, all that matters is #fukkery :ahh:

I agree that Punk is as big as he's gonna get. But he needs the win to maintain that level for a longer period of time. If he loses, he starts sinking, and they can't afford to have a full-time, main-event level wrestler sinking in popularity.

Rock is money regardless of whether or not he's the champ. He will main-event Mania if he's the champ, the challenger, or just facing somebody like Cena in a non-title match. Since he's a guaranteed draw, use his limited appearances to increase and/or maintain the value of the full-time, permanent employees. He can lose every match until Mania and STILL not lose any value.

the things is, when you have rock announce the day after mania he will be champion and is going for the title, then you make a plan where he puts over punk's reign at the rumble and doesn't fight cena for it at mania, it's stupid.

That's true, I forgot about Rock saying that. Yeah okay, I guess they gotta stick to the plan. I just hope they don't damage Punk too much in the process.

Damage Punk? They've been having him job out main event spots to John Cena all year and your concern is over what happens when he gets in the ring with a guy he was never supposed to be in the first place? Odd.

If CM Punk "starts sinking" after losing, what does that say about his star? He can't stay over without looking unbeatable? That's how Goldberg became a flash in the pan after 1998.

Brehs I can't be the only one that doesn't want to see Taker wrestle again :scusthov:

Yeah I'd be okay with that. Just give him a Flair-level retirement celebration and I think everybody would be happy. That would be better TV than another of his multiple-false-finish matches.
