This tablet/phone baby generation will be something we've never seen before

Not even getting into the psychological effects of always being connected and validated by friends and strangers online...

think about the radiation from those devices to their developing brains :francis:

Stuff like this has happened before social media was even invented. It's called the bystander effect.

i think a big difference is back then you didn't use the same device that could be used to call for help to instead record it. if bystanders back then were picking up a phone to call a friend and say "damn man this guy just got stabbed and is bleeding out" then you would get a similar reaction: you couldn't call 911 first?

Police horrified after at least 50 teens watched, filmed boy dying and did not intervene
Alex LaskerSeptember 18, 2019, 11:55 AM CDT
Authorities on Long Island are asking witnesses to come forward after they say at least 50 teens stood by and watched as a 16-year-old boy lay dying in a parking lot after a fight over a girl.

Khaseen Morris, a 16-year-old student at Oceanside High School in New York, was lured to the parking lot of a nearby strip mall after class Monday by students who reportedly threatened his life if he failed to show up, Nassau County officials said.

When he arrived, Morris was attacked by a group of six to seven teens and a fight ensued, during which Morris sustained a fatal stab wound to his upper torso. Dozens of teens allegedly looked on as Morris bled out on the ground, taking videos of the incident instead of calling for help.

The victim was eventually taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries.

"They videoed his death instead of helping him," Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County homicide squad said at a Tuesday press conference.

"I don't know what to make of it, my generation versus this generation," he continued. "This can't go on. Your friends are dying while you stand there and video it. That's egregious."

According to Morris's sister, 22-year-old Keyanna Morris, the attackers' vendetta first began when her brother walked a girl home from a party on Saturday night after she asked him to do so, WABC reports. Keyanna now believes the girl, whose identity has not been released, made the request in order to make her ex-boyfriend jealous, a mission that was apparently successful.

The bereaved sister told reporters through tears that she and her family had just moved to Oceanside from nearby Freeport, N.Y., in order to get a fresh start and that her brother had been thrilled with the change before his untimely death.

"He told my mom this is the first time in so long that he's been so happy," she said during an interview.

Although multiple witnesses have already presented authorities with information on the incident, Detective Lt. Fitzpatrick warned those who may have additional information to come forward immediately.

"If you're not a part and parcel of the murder of Khaseen Morris, now's the time to get in touch with us and let us know who did this and why," Fitzpatrick said.

"After I put handcuffs on you is not going to be the time" to come forward, he added.

‘They Videoed His Death’: After a Brawl, Teenagers Gawked as a Boy Lay Dying
“He danced, he was very funny,” she said. “He was very sweet.”

On Sunday, she said, a 10th-grade girl asked her brother to walk her home and he obliged. Ms. Morris said she believed that the girl had been trying to make her ex-boyfriend jealous.

It appears to have worked.

Before Khaseen left for school on Monday, he told his family that he had received a threat from the girl’s ex-boyfriend, Ms. Morris said.

“My brother, he shrugged stuff like that off,” she said. “He told the boy he didn’t want his girlfriend, it was nothing like that, he just walked her home. The boy said he didn’t care.”

Ms. Morris said she thought that Khaseen’s walking the girl home had prompted the fight. “Him being so nice, that one good deed that he did got him killed,” she said.

The high school on Tuesday had grief counselors at the ready to help students cope with the loss.

If this is true, arrest the girl too.

Can't talk because generation y and generation x was screwed up as well. In fact, we were worse in terms of being violent. A lot of today's kids wouldn't survive the 80s, 90s and 2000s even.

Nah generation y has been certified as less violent than z but more likely to be on hard drugs these young kids aint doing dope like that but they are shooting and committing suicide at higher rates than us. In my high school days we had metal detectors cuz of :mjpls:but not a single school massacre now look at these kids its crszy

As I got older I realized why my parents sometimes told me not to hang with certain people. Not necessarily because they could have been bad influences, but if some real shiit went down they didn't want me to be surrounded by idiots.

Smh

This. Even as an adult. You gotta know who's in your circle, and who's willing to get it shaking if shyt goes down.
