the polar bear had been trying to snatch it up from the front, the seal was slick and would manage to bounce to another ice bed upon seeing it coming. so, the polar bear got slick too, switched it up, and peeked behind it, memorized its location, went under the ice bed and snatched it up

Really just depends on the setting. In a cold setting the tiger doesn't stand a chance. But a warm jungle would wear the polar bear out in a few minutes of squabbing
