Other studios have successful games and IP to make this argument.

At this point Platinum is basically a support studio.

Last time Microsoft let them do what they wanted it ended in a epic failure.
Ok the EA approach of dictating to them what will be made always works better right?

Nah, they just gone keep getting passed around like the industry ho they are. Nobody gone buy these fools or they woulda already did it.
Tencent has dealings with them. Plenty of options Embraer Group and NetEase are also out there.

Japanese ain't fukkin with Xbox breh, no matter what.

It's on Nintendo to acquire them or Tencent. Then you'd probably have cats leaving so the company won't even be what it was.
Tencent owns an percentage of Platinum Games, so I wouldn't be surprise of that one

The most logical buyers are sega or square enix but no ones saying it cause they prob hoping both those publishers get scooped themselves lol
Sega is the most realistic choice is due to them own most of PG's IPs and can give them the creative freedom they desire like how Atlus is operating within Sega. If Square Enix is on the table, then their games needs to do big numbers, unless Kamiya wants to find himself leaving like Yuji Naka. If Bandai Namco and Capcom (which would be very ironic) are interested, then that can help them, but those companies would have to buy the IPs from Sega.

This is one developer I think could really benefit from Sony buying them. Or a second party relationship. They make great stuff but seem to lack structure or leadership. Someone to get them started on something, bankroll them, and keep them on point.

Welcome to capitalism where the dream is to start a company and build it up then sell it to a bigger company that has more capital.

Their goal is to see their company secure stability and proper funding. Who can blame them for seeking a better future for the company?

These smaller to medium sized companies unless they're gobbled up by a bigger fish they're fukked. Either they spend their entire existence working with big publishers to publish their games or they're purchased by one.

What worth is there in Platinum existing and continuing to get contracts to work on IPs they typically don't even own the rights to?

This is kind of a cynical take. Yes some companies would like to be acquired and sit pretty, but that doesn't mean the smaller to medium sized companies are fukked or hurting. They get to put what they want to put out into the world and continue doing their thing, and as long as it's something meaningful and worthwhile they should be able to continue doing that.

Platinum is only doing this because they have a new president who stepped down due to the increasing workload, but they put themselves in this hole by continuing to put out licensed cash in products and making questionable decisions with their legit original IPs, like delaying the fukk out of Bayo 3 and making it switch exclusive. They'll likely still be ok if they don't get bought out too, but they know it'll make things easier for them.

No one else is gonna say it but Platinum makes the kind of games that were more popular last decade. I think they have to evolve a bit to stay in the game.

Something closer to vanquish or metal gear rising would do them a lot of good. Evolve those style of games that have unique mechanics rather than the hack n slash niche action games they do now.

One flop can wreck a company. Independent companies get to make what they want inside the limits of the funding they have. See Double Fine. Sold out to Microsoft and got the resources to drastically improve the game they wanted to make in Psychonauts 2 adding things like boss fights to the game. Game development is expensive and takes more resources that many of these small to medium companies can get.

There's a reason so many independent studios target the look and feel of 2 and a half to 3 decade old games.

Edge of Eternity the JRPG like game is a perfect example. An independent studio tried to make a more modern looking game and people look at it, call it janky and just say no. They could have made it look like a SNES RPG and people probably would have received it better. Midgar Studios did get to make the game they wanted but right after sold out to a larger company because small to medium studios catch hell trying to overcome limited resources.
