I'm saying the concept
The Robert Downey movie im talking about was called Due Date
About 2 guys trying to get home and RDJ wife was having a baby
Yeah due date is basically the new version of this movie. Much more mean spirited but it is that.
On the subject of a remake, I’m not against it on principle. Not against any remake on principle for real. If it’s done well I got a new movie to like. If it’s not I got a new movie to never think about again. No sweat off my back.
However, remaking movies that are the singular vision of one person is tough. This is a John Hughes movie through and through. It’s his perspective, his everything. Remaking a big studio movie with a cadre of writers or was just a work for hire, is easier to do. The problem when it’s something that’s so steeped in someone else’s voice is it’s easy to copy them in places but not really understand why. Choices are made just because they have to be made rather than fully understanding why. It’s why carpenter remakes haven’t worked; the people writing them or directing them don’t have a perspective of their own or something new to add to the story. They’re just doing whatever they do.
That’s why it’s easier to remake Friday the 13th than nightmare on elm street. Sean Cunningham and crew were just copying other people and wanted to do something to make money on the former. The latter was all Wes Craven’s inspiration. He took shyt from his childhood, research, and modern headlines and that’s what we got.
Doesn’t mean this will be bad. Doesn’t mean it will be good either. Just means they have a really fine line to walk and I hope the writer has a story she wants to tell that means a lot to her because Hughes’ flick has a lot of heart to it as well and it’s clearly personal.
