I've had time to process things.
1. The umpire was terrible. Both the Yankees and Dodgers were helped and absolutely killed by the strike zone. I truly mean both sides. It was so bad that maybe it evened out? I can't remember a worse umpire in World Series history. There must have been 30 missed calls at least.
2. LAD had some bad luck with the ball staying in the park. Maybe it was the wind or weather or the dynamics of Dodger Stadium. But it went both ways to some degree. Gleyber's double could have been a HR elsewhere.
3. The Yankees continue to leave men on base because while the team has power, they lack the ability to make reliable contact. Some of us Yankees fans have been screaming about the flaws in Brian Cashman's roster construction and unfortunately we are seeing it continue this postseason.
4. There's no getting around it. Aaron Judge has to find his mojo. If he's going to slap singles in between 3 strikeout games, he might as well return the money. He's either thinking too much or not enough because even sitting at home my silly ass can predict what pitches he's getting. He looks lost. At least Soto is alert enough to foul off the pitches he doesn't want.
5. The Dodgers have a lot of threats, but the guys I would be afraid of are Will Smith and Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez because he seemingly has an ability to rise to the moment. And Smith because he's a really damn good hitter who just happens to be struggling hard right now. If you pitch around Freeman and Betts and Ohtani, you better be damn sure you keep Teoscar and Smith and Hernandez off the bases.
6. This is a smaller issue but for a while there has been this talk about Anthony Volpe and growing up a Yankees/Jeter fan. Look kid, if you really think you're the next Jeter you need to start playing like him. I haven't seen you try to slap a single to Right Field ever. You basically suck so if you want to have any value here you gotta find a way to get to 1st and use your speed on the base paths.
7. Sloppy fielding by the Yankees. Gleyber and Soto and Verdugo allowing runners to get to 3rd base with bad fundamentals on the field. The Bad News Bears didn't cost 300 million. Come on.
8. I was shocked they let Nestor Cortes pitch to Freddie Freeman. Honestly shocked. Freddie Freeman is WIDELY known to be a good hitter vs lefties (with Corey Seager being another). And Nestor Cortes hadn't pitched in a month. Horrendous management decision by Aaron Boone. Even if you think the Yankees didn't deserve to win this game, Aaron Boone is most responsible for giving it away. I honestly don't know what the hell he is ever thinking. Just dumb. Frankly I thought Weaver should have come out to start the 10th anyway. It's the World Series. What the fukk are you saving him for anyway? You're on the road in a series projected to be very tight. You have to steal any win you can. Just stupid stupid managing.
