Between the barbershop scene and the alteration shop convo with his moms...that's love right there.

How come we, um, never talked about your life before?
You never asked...but I'm glad you did this time.

:wow:

Its crazy cause sometimes we sort of put people we know in a box. Certain things you never really discuss with them or even try to know for real. Then when they die you sort of wish you took the time to speak with them more. In this instance Joe realized how he could have known his community better if he just took the time. However, it seems like we got all the time..

I didn’t like this movie. I WANTED TO. But I didn’t like it at all. I kind of hate it

The film’s “message” didn’t connect with me in the slightest. Also him willing to sacrifice his “life” (badge) for a white woman (yea yea I know she was a “soul” but the voice actress is Tina Fey) rang hollow to me. That magical negro shyt needs to be buried six feet deep and NEVER unearthed

I’m one who firmly believes that we make our own purposes in life.

If Joe was inspired by his father to play Jazz and that was his passion then he should have been given the chance to experience that euphoria when he finally got what he’d been working for his entire life. Instead it felt “Hollow”. Why? Because apparently he didn’t understand the meaning of “life”? Black men pursuing dreams and WANTING to have a purpose. Something to aspire to, is an issue? He actually ENDS the movie with no idea whatsoever what he wants out of life. fukk that.

Its not that he didnt have any idea of what he wants out of life. He learned to appreciate the joy of living.

There’s no “joy” in living whilst pursuing your life long dream passed down from your father and actually ATTAINING it:gucci:

Breh Kobe once said this

Its not about being non aspirational its dont be so consumed that you lose sight of everything else. Joe was so unaware of his surroundings after getting the gig he damn near died several times.

He felt hollow because he thought being successful would automatically make him happy. Thats not necessarily true.

I might be outta line here, but this also made me realize how Rashad is maybe a better actress than Bassett. :francis: I know its just voice acting and all..

I totally bought that she was that character. Angela seemed like she was just reading lines.
I feel you, but voice acting is way different than screen acting. It’s a different skill set.
