Phonte confirmed that Expensive Genes and Cry No More were originally set to be one track with a beat change, as an homage to Jay-Z's Million and One Questions/Rhyme No More.

He said he ultimately thought that even though the subject matters were related enough to be one song, that Cry No More was powerful enough that it deserved its own track.

I don’t think it is but Cost of living is not too bad down here. I’m sure his place is solid. “Hit the city to see one of my schoolmates. Making 6 figures but she still need a roommate, just to have a downtown apartments and some outfits? And y’all asking why I’ll never leave the south? Sheeeitt...take some time to dream. Peace of mind’s a delightful thing. This is the life of kings.”



Plus He played it smart. He got his publishing right early on, and especially on the entire Foreign Exchange side of things he was business savvy. Plus he’s writing for tv shows and doing all types of shyt outside of just music. I’m really happy that he’s been able to be successful and do it his way.
