Whose fault is it we have no draft pick though? If we don't make the playoffs, it sucks, but oh well.

A better measure of success this season will be if:
1. Kristaps, Grant and any of the other young acquisitions show growth and potential.

2. The pieces brought in fit well enough to show that the system is effective. For example, if Derrick Williams can go from bust to a pay day next offseason, that's a great selling point to FA's.

3. The team makes a marked improvement in the win column, 20 more wins is what it'd take just to fight for a playoff spot. That's a lot to ask for from a 17 win team that is bringing in so many new players (especially when a chunk of them are young). But they do need to improve that mark by a significant amount.

4. The team establishes a real identity. It looks like Phil went for smart players who defend well (with the one obvious exception so far). If he can get those guys to establish a hard working, selfless identity for the franchise it will go much further to helping our future than bringing in guys who are flashy names but don't fit that mold. Those guys would cost more and while they might get us into the playoffs, signing one way players to massive deals has proven to be a failure for us. At best, we'd have a treadmill core that's hard to build around.

But it's like they don't even want to make the playoffs.

1. I don't trust the new rookie. They all play the same...all of the Gs and all of the bigs and have no real skillsets

2. Derrick Williams isn't getting any better. He's trash. He hasn't shown anything in the NBA that says that he can improve.

3.

4. The team didn't establish an identity because Derek Fisher cannot coach. In the first 20 games of the season, he used like 17 different lineups. He had minutes up and down so the team never really developed anything. Then they brought in weird a$$ players. So what kind of team will this be? This signings are HORRIBLE. Smart players as in Luke Waltons? Talent wins games not a team full of unfinished projects. Even if you have a team full of defenders, where will the offense come from? Those are still one-way players. He doesn't have a single other scorer to play with, only these people aren't even good defenders. There aren't any shooters, any passers, and players that know how to move without the ball and no low post scoring. He could have made better moves - signing Bass, Drummond trade for Lee, went after Kaman instead of Robin (Kaman did what Robin did in less mpg). He could've got a better SG than Affalo (Ellis). They scraped the bottom of the barrel.

Well, I don't think they're selling out the future to squeak into the playoffs. That's a good thing.

1. I don't trust the new rookie. They all play the same...all of the Gs and all of the bigs and have no real skillsets

Ooooooookay?

2. Derrick Williams isn't getting any better. He's trash. He hasn't shown anything in the NBA that says that he can improve.

That's probably true, but it's a cheap flier.

3.With some young talent worth developing, now is a time when you want to see a set up a decent system, and try to improve. The second half will likely be better than the first... and hopefully we see good basketball out of Porzingis and Grant.

4. The team didn't establish an identity because Derek Fisher cannot coach.

The team didn't establish an identity, because they fukking sucked. There as nothing TO develop, it was a roster devoid of talent.

Then they brought in weird a$$ players. So what kind of team will this be? This signings are HORRIBLE. Smart players as in Luke Waltons?

I don't know what the Luke Walton shoutout is about... but the signings were smart and reasoned. They didn't overcommit, and they invested in pieces that could help them long term and short term. That's all you want your team to do.

Talent wins games not a team full of unfinished projects. Even if you have a team full of defenders, where will the offense come from? Those are still one-way players. He doesn't have a single other scorer to play with, only these people aren't even good defenders.

You can only acquire what's on the market.... there weren't a bunch of world-beating superstars out there, and even if there were - they wouldn't come to New York, because the franchise hasn't shown that they can put together competent rosters around stars.

Don't be stupid.

There aren't any shooters, any passers, and players that know how to move without the ball and no low post scoring. He could have made better moves - signing Bass, Drummond trade for Lee,

HAHAHAHAHAHA -- Your suggestions were: Sign Bass, a career backup, who is smaller and worse than O'Quinn? Drummond, who is on a rookie deal and not able to be signed? And trade for David fukking Lee? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

went after Kaman

AND KAMAN??? HAHAHAHAHAHA

instead of Robin (Kaman did what Robin did in less mpg). He could've got a better SG than Affalo (Ellis). They scraped the bottom of the barrel.

Well, Monta Ellis is a career chucker, with half a good season under his belt, and Afflalo was cheaper, and a shorter deal. And Kaman is a worse player than Robin Lopez, Older, and hasn't been healthy in three years.

So maybe you should just sit a few plays out, champ. Come back with some facts, and updated information. This dude said sign Drummond! HAHAHAHAHAHA:russ: We should sign Okafor, Towns, and Wiggins while we're at it.

1. A 23 year old with 4 years of college ball (plus a red shirt year) is a different player than a 19 year old with one year in college.

2. That's a pretty common belief and that's why, if he does show improvement and get himself a nice contract, it's a selling point to FA's next offseason. That was the whole point of my example.

4. Fish was a rookie coach, dealing with an injury plagued roster that also made multiple roster moves throughout the season. It wasn't an ideal situation for him to begin with, though I agree he needs a lot of work. The identity comment however, wasn't about last season.

Smart players as in the entire Spurs rotation has guys with good bball iq from the stars to the 11th and 12th man. Our locker room is going to have a lot of smart players that can help each other and play within a system. "Talent wins games" was the Isaiah Thomas motto.

A team full of defenders surrounding a scorer who consistently tops the league was the way to build around Iverson, he made the Finals that way. The garbage we trotted out last year was putting up top 10 offense numbers whenever Melo was on the floor with them, and he was on a bum knee from game 3 onward. So the offense will rely on him, but that's worked with complete bums even. Afflalo averaged 18.5 two seasons ago and was at his most efficient playing with Melo, so there's hope the chemistry is still there.

I think you're ignoring how players compliment each other. Monta for 11 million over Afflalo is pure names over fit. Dude is a high usage player, he dominates the ball to the point that Rajon Rondo lost all value playing next to him. Kaman over Lopez...come on now...one of those players is 27 and has mobility to actually succeed against pick and rolls (the dominant offensive set of the day) while the other has played less than 50 games in 3 of the past 5 seasons. Bass over D-Will I agree with, I'd do that one too if it was possible. Trading for Lee was impossible after our signings and would have eaten a more significant amount of cap space than anyone we signed outside of Lopez. Taking each of those FA's individually, none of them are gonna blow minds but they all have complimentary skill sets that more and more journalists and analysts are beginning to recognize.

Kristaps was like 212 on draft night

How is he at 233 already? :dwillhuh:

I read he measured at 220 in europe and added 18 lbs. of muscle up to now. But I usually take measurements like that with a grain of salt.

Knicks interested in John Jenkins now allegedly, it'd give us a sharp shooter...but that's about it.
