All are penciled in the playoffs barring catastrophic injury. Knicks are going to have to beat out the Celts/Pacers/Pistons for that 8th seed. I don't see it

The east is definitely getting better but after the Bulls, Cavs and wizards I don't see any other team running away with a playoff spot. The heat look good on a paper but I don't think they're a definite in.

#knickstape is timeless breh. We don't have to get fancy and change names.
While true...it may not fit the culture of our current roster.

Knickstape originated from Mixtape...when Shump was freestyling and JR was painting the town red, busting down Tahiri.

This roster is not about that lifestyle. This is actually a good thing. But we don't have any urban extroverts.

Aside from Carmelo, Porzingis might be the only player that is bout it, in terms of hip hop. An exaggeration, but we hardly know these dudes.

We graduated from the Knicktape.

Well if we don't make the playoffs then we in trouble with no draft pick

Hes right tho

Bro it's playoff or bust. We have no picks.

You guys are so simple-minded with this team it's not even funny. It's entirely possible that in order to make the playoffs this year in the East that you'd have to have a winning record. Do you see the Knicks having a winning record this year?

YES....IT IS important that the Knicks show that they can make it to the playoffs in order to attract talent. YES....it is true that the Knicks not having a draft pick this year means that the only thing wins and losses really affect is playoff standing. That does NOT mean that this season is a failure if the Knicks fail to make the playoffs. A better indicator is whether or not they're in the hunt....another indicator is whether our returning youngs come back with improved skills....another indicator is whether our rookies show that they're ready to make an impact on this team NOW and that they're not projects that will take years to get anything significant out of. If all of these things happen the season is a success regardless of whether we make the playoffs or not.

Whose fault is it we have no draft pick though? If we don't make the playoffs, it sucks, but oh well.

A better measure of success this season will be if:
1. Kristaps, Grant and any of the other young acquisitions show growth and potential.

2. The pieces brought in fit well enough to show that the system is effective. For example, if Derrick Williams can go from bust to a pay day next offseason, that's a great selling point to FA's.

3. The team makes a marked improvement in the win column, 20 more wins is what it'd take just to fight for a playoff spot. That's a lot to ask for from a 17 win team that is bringing in so many new players (especially when a chunk of them are young). But they do need to improve that mark by a significant amount.

4. The team establishes a real identity. It looks like Phil went for smart players who defend well (with the one obvious exception so far). If he can get those guys to establish a hard working, selfless identity for the franchise it will go much further to helping our future than bringing in guys who are flashy names but don't fit that mold. Those guys would cost more and while they might get us into the playoffs, signing one way players to massive deals has proven to be a failure for us. At best, we'd have a treadmill core that's hard to build around.

Homie it's as simple as that. Wins and losses and making the offs are a barometer on how well your team is doing. History shows that having a good losing record will get you a playoff spot in the east. Happens every year breh.

Melo didn't play most of last year and we were in a transitional period with players/coaches. If healthy the fact that we have him will atleast net us 30 wins. NoW, if the team begins to gel then we will see a pretty good increase from that. Our rookies success will definelty reflect in our record too.

See I think what we are saying is if those things @storyteller are saying happen I expect to be a playoff team even if it's a low seed . But I want the young players to develop and stuff as well but if we can't make the playoffs with all those improvements we will probably not be able to sign anyone of value again with everyone getting capspace and no pick. I don't think just being in the hunt does anything unless we are in the hunt with say 43-45 wins but don't make it . Like 30 wins is good for us and shows internal progress but are luring people here ?? Ehh that becomes the issue

I would prefer the knicks prioritize a winning record first and winning at home alongside player development. We got to develop some of these young players
yeah true about the young players as well . Would you rather the Knicks win 45+ and kristaps not being much than another Gallo this year or him looking like an offensive Version of Anthony Davis with us winning 17 again

Now I get you, those bits succeeding would mean more than 30 wins and at least a shot at the playoffs. I feel you on that for sure. I think if the improvement is enough for us to be even close to the playoffs though, it'll be enough to sell FA's on mainly because it'd mean our signings (mainly guys who don't put up gaudy stats) excelled and we could use that along with the young core as selling points. Basically, "we're competing to make the playoffs now with Melo and our young guys are developing fast, plus you can see how the system inflated our veterans' numbers. It can do that for you too."
