honestly, they should get Swisher. He can play a corner OF spot, he's a switch hitter, & he gets on base a lot. He also a good clubhouse guy. I hated him with the Yankees but he's the type of player they need.

Regarding Hamilton…he wanted a long-term deal, point blank. He claims that no one from the Phillies ever reached out to him. However, multiple reports had indicated that the Phillies had offered 3yrs/$80M. I think the sticking point with him was the years. Personally, I’m glad we didn’t offer more, or end up paying any of it. It would have been great to land the guy, but not at such a steep price when you can get someone like Swisher or Ross for cheaper (I can’t stand Cody Ross, but his success at CBP can’t be denied).

But then again, who knows WHAT RAJ is going to do. I had no idea they had offered Ichiro 2yrs/$14M…he turned them down to stay with the Yankees. So I wonder if that means Swisher is out, as well.

I know one thing….Soriano’s not the right type of personality for this locker room, IMO. He’s a “me first” kinda guy, that’s not gon’ fly in this locker room with all these veteran players who have deep playoff run experience. I could see his bytch ass gettin’ tossed up for runnin’ his mouth. :heh:

We NEED another right-handed bat, and preferably a power-hitting OF. We NEED another starting pitcher: with the money we just saved NOT getting Josh Hamilton, RAJ needs to make a run at a guy like Kyle Lohse or Shawn Marcum to shore up the back end of that rotation. Plus, with either of those two guys you’re not losing out giving them a 2-3 year deal. You don’t lose shyt this year giving Lohse the same deal you offered Ichiro. We also need a set-up guy….I’m not mad at getting Brian Wilson for a year, see how he does.

But for what RAJ has done so far, you CANNOT be mad at the man. He got Revere for basically NOTHING financially (Vance Worley, we will miss you), then got Young for an absolute steal. They are WELL positioned not to cross that tax threshold and yet still have plenty of money to go sign all the aforementioned types of players they need. Our farm system is depleted in terms of positional depth. We have some great young arms in the system, and those guys may even get called up this year to give our bullpen some depth…but as far as having depth and youth at key positions, we’re kinda lacking with that.

That’s why I loved the Ben Revere acquisition. He was a piece to the puzzle, we needed a defensive CF, and he’s young AND under contract for quite awhile. AND, he’s already taken to the city, this kid’s gonna be a fan favorite.

I also like the Michael Young acquisition. Think of it like this….in 2012, his worst season in a decade, this guy STILL hit .277 with 27 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 67 RBIs..in PART TIME duty. That’s, like, second best on the entire Phillies team last season. :stopitslime: And this guy can’t HELP?

You know why I have faith in Young bouncing back? Because this guy is motivated to show the Rangers that they’re wrong about him. Plus, from September 2, 2012 through the end of the regular season, he hit .324 with an .867 OPS…so clearly he was starting to hit his stride. This guy is about to BEAST in our hitter-friendly park and could possibly have an All-Star caliber year.

Meanwhile….Darin Ruf has the potential to be a really good player. Charlie said on Tuesday that he’s looked really good in winter ball and that Charlie is “anxious to see what he can do” this Spring. I think that means Charlie will give him every opportunity to win the job. The question is whether he can become an everyday player. But he’s got all the tools: good fielding, power hitting….the kid is very promising. Let’s hope he continues to improve, that can only help us.

Ultimately, I think Charlie believes RAJ will sign someone. But until then, his contingency plan is to platoon Ruf, Dom, Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix in the outfield.

The keys to success this year lie with the vets, though. EVERYBODY has to have a bounce back season in order for the Phillies to contend. Like, literally EVERBODY (except for the ever-steady Cole Hamels). So many question marks: is Doc’s arm shot? If Cliff Lee gets run support this year, can he win 20 games? Will Michael Young return to form now that he’s playing every day again? Will Ryan Howard be the Ryan Howard we know of old? Will Utley, with his obnoxiously “sometimey” ass knee?

This shyt’s gonna go one of two ways: either these dudes are gonna show once and for all that they’re :flabbynsick: status, or they’re gonna make a run at this shyt. Utley is especially on notice, he absolutely HAS TO come to Spring Training in shape and ready to go, with ZERO knee problems. That is paramount.

People keep saying “the Phillies are old”….okay, whatever. But even at the ages they’re at, that window of opportunity still ain’t quite closed all the way yet. This is likely THE LAST year for it, though….before they have to start giving the young boys more burn every day at their positions (e.g., Cody Asche, Freddie Galvis).

Imagine the possibilities this year if ere’body stays relatively healthy, though! A FORMIDABLE 3-5 in your lineup…Rollins and Revere leading off, getting double steals (oh make no mistake, Charlie IS going to keep Jimmy in the lead-off role. He’s loyal to him in that regard, AND when Jimmy hit from the 2 and/or 3 hole previously after being moved, that didn’t work out too well.)…Doc, Cliff and Cole FINALLY all getting consistent run support and each winning at least 15 games… :ahh:

Here’s my projected lineup:

Rollins
Revere
Utley
Howard
Young
Ruf
Brown /Whoever They Sign as a FA
Chooch (Kratz until he returns)

Yeah, I been sayin' this for a week now. He would make an immediate difference in the lineup, I believe.

Also, I believe Dom Brown is unfairly treated. He was prematurely thrust into a role that was unfair to his development...they essentially made him the "savior" that year, and he couldn't do it. And then he got demoted and it fukked with his confidence. But the fans been shyttin' on him for it ever since, shyt ain't fair.

That said, he HAS to play well this year.

I hate the Phillies front office. Easily the worst organization in town. Aside from the Gillick era, they've always been shyt.

These cats were really trying to trade Dom Dom for Alfonso Soriano. :what:

I don't know bruh I can say they pulled off some :krs: deals but most of those been pitchers they are inept to bringing in bats that's what we need! We need an outfield bat and another infield bat

so yall actually think they should build to actually contend next year for the WS?

i think they should do enough to pretend to make a playoff run/inflate commodity and keep up the sellouts and the market interested so they can start their rebuild in 2 years/get rid of all the bad contracts and reup some prospects

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Pence wasn't that good of a deal. He's in San Fran now with a ring.

We're spending 39 million next year on Howard, Papelbon, and Michael fukking Young. :mindblown:

I don't think it's been perfect but I like the fact that they have an aggressive front office that isn't afraid to spend money to win. I agree Howard & Papelbon are overpaid, but it could be a lot worse. I think the bigger problem is that they are just getting old. There's not much Amaro can do about that. They made alot of these moves knowing the window was only going to be open for a few years, & they went for it. Also as far as Michael Young goes, the Rangers are paying 10.5 of his 16 mill. Then he is off the books.

2 years? Ain't nobody got time for that! :damn: I wanna win every year but if we can get a healthy Howard and utley all we need is a solid 2 more bats no big signings we have a chance last year was a cluster fukk with injuries ..

I hate the Phillies front office. Easily the worst organization in town. Aside from the Gillick era, they've always been shyt.

…as opposed to who, the bytch ass Eagles? Yunno, the organization that doesn’t give a shyt about their fans and routinely takes fan support FOR GRANTED, and which thinks that a 10-win season and a playoff appearance are “just as good” as a Super Bowl and who equate doing so year after year as being “successful” on the same level of what the Steelers have done? :stopitslime:

Yeah, that was your boy Lurie on the radio last year, saying that they equate the Eagles with the Steelers because we’ve been to the playoffs as many times as they have in the last ten years….and to him, that means we’ve been successful. I mean, NEVERMIND that they’ve actually WON the fukking title in that time and we haven’t, eh Jeffrey boy? :childplease:

The Eagles front office doesn’t have shyt on the fukking Phillies front office, fukk the Eagles. They put THEMSELVES in this bullshyt ass position by keeping that fat fukk around about five years too long AND by drafting like a bunch of clueless fakkits (that’s what happens when you let NON-PERSONNEL idiots make your draft choices every year….over HALF the nikkas we drafted in the last five years are either (a) not on the team anymore, or (b) not in the fukkin’ LEAGUE anymore).

Meanwhile, all the Phillies ever try to do is bring in the best talent they can while NOT going broke…..even in paying two pitchers and Howard over $20M per, we STILL ain’t gonna take a tax hit like these other teams. Anybody who looks at the moves RAJ has made this offseason and calls them “dumb” isn’t paying attention.

In the last five years, the Phillies won the division four outta those five years, won the NL twice, been to the WS twice and won it once. What have the Eagles done in that time, aside from fukking EMBARRASS the city time after time?

No, friend….the Phillies have THE BEST front office in the city. fukk what USED to be, we’re talking about right now…and right now, no other organization in this city even comes CLOSE.

People kill me….two years ago, the Phillies were DOMINATING the NL and the NL East in particular during the regular season, just running roughshod through the division and National League, and them hoes on 97.5 FM were talmbout “I’m BORED with the regular season…” :what: Fast forward 16 months and now ere’body wanna cry about how “trash” the team and/or front office is….

fukkin’ fickle ass hypocritical bullshyt fans in this city, man.

(that wasn’t directed at you personally, @phillycavsfan, as much as it was at that pervading sensibility)

Source: Phillies to sign Mike Adams

Updated: December 15, 2012, 10:59 AM ET
By Jayson Stark | ESPN.com

Reliever Mike Adams has agreed to a two-year, $12-million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, pending a physical, an industry source told ESPN.com

A vesting 2015 option would convert the deal to a guaranteed third season if Adams appears in 120 games or more over the first two seasons with at least 60 appearances in 2014.

The 34-year-o right-hander is recovering from surgery to correct Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, but is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for spring training.
Adams, who is represented by Seth and Sam Levinson of Aces Inc., chose the Phillies over a group of teams that included the Nationals, Rangers, Brewers, White Sox, Angels and Cubs.
One of the Phillies' top priorities heading into the offseason was acquiring a proven set-up man to handle the eighth inning in front of closer Jonathan Papelbon. They lost 16 games last season that they led in the seventh inning or later.

By contrast, the Nationals and Braves, who finished ahead of them in the NL East, lost 10 such games combined.

Adams leads all set-up men in baseball in holds over the last three seasons with 97. And his 2.06 ERA in that period is second to Atlanta's Eric O'Flaherty, among relievers who worked at least 175 innings.
