I thought it was consensus that Ghost Protocol saved the franchise. Certainly MI 3 was better than MI 2. But I believe it was MI 4 that brought the necessary energy, sophistication and revitalized the story. Especially since there was a 5 year gap between when MI 3 came out and MI 4 came out. Correct me if I’m wrong.

No. You right.
All in all Tom Cruise and the production team kept really honestly trying to make the franchise better. I feel 1 was good, 2 they tried too hard with John Woo and it was getting to formulaic so they brought Mr Abrams and so many fresh ideas for the 3rd. I mean wtf is the rabbits foot again? No one cares. Seymour Hoffman tore it up RIP and Maggie Q was such a nice touch. Ghost Protocol was the peak of excellence though, they got everything right, that whole Dubai Hotel sequence was top notch. No looking back from there, franchise is a certified classic.

Saved ?

I think it was fine before and after him

But he was definitely great and that movie was probably the best one
Nah... Mission Impossible was on its deathbed after 2 being trash by fans and Tom Cruise was at the lowest point of his career with all of his drama. You see it the affect of 2 in the huge box office dip of 3. 3 turned the franchise around and they strike while the iron was hot with 4.

wtf mission impossible 2 was the highest grossing film of 2000 lol

3 was my favorite tho and it definitely returned the series to a more grounded format with tom cruise not being some invincible superman anymore. hoffman was great too even tho he was barely in it

I can't remember anything that happened in any of the films past 3

Suicide Squad made $750 million. The sequel made $167 million. When you make an crap film. You don't go see the sequel.

Also, this was also before reviews for film where wildly accessible. So, any highly anticipated film was gonna make bank.

terrible comparison man, one film had will smith leading and the next was a same day streaming pandemic film

mission impossible 2 was a huge success and the reasons people tuned out on the franchise were 1. it took 6 fukkin years to make the next one 2. tom cruise was older 3. that oprah interview in 2005+scientology shyt turned him into a joke and people started to look at him like a weirdo

I think mi3 saved his career in a way and made people take him seriously again even tho it was the lowest grossing film in the franchise. saying it saved mission impossible is a stretch tho cause it was doing fine
