No he wasn’t he worked on the games side until he got promoted as the guy to replace Mattrick after all of his fukkery.

Xbox’s push for Backwards Compatibility, GamePass, and cloud gaming started when he became head of Xbox. Not to mention the Minecraft acquisition (which was seen as risky at the time), along with Bethesda and Activision. He’s done a good job righting the ship since the X1 launch :manny:

And Xbox is by far the most consumer friendly of the big 3. Gamepass, backwards compatibility/FPS boost, Xbox all access, cloud streaming, Smart Delivery, etc. They make it way more accessible and cost effective to play games and it’s honestly not even close in that regard :hubie:
I can't tell if this is satire. :skip:

He's been in charge since 2014 and they still don't have any exclusives.

meanwhile theres still nothing worth playing on Xbox

:dahell: he literally saved xbox lol 😆

Both of these things are true.

As one of the leaders for Xbox (including his time heading Xbox Game Studios) he hasn't done a good job developing studios, managing projects or building new IP or experiences for Xbox gamers.

However, after the Don Mattrick fiasco he saved the Xbox brand by helping to build a business plan that seemed lucrative to MS executives that involved tripling down on investments in gaming.

Without Xbox in the marketplace the economy of console gaming would be different and more expensive across the board.

However, Xbox is here and isn't known for delivering quality titles or new experiences in the time that he has lead studios or the entire business. He is very much just playing it safe.

Turning down a failing products that had little to no internal studios/culture takes time, judge him on exclusives when the products and the studios he have purchased release next year and forward.

So he deserves an award for convincing Satya to save Xbox?

People can write whatever narrative they want here with the circumstances, but when it comes down to the things that matter, Xbox has been shytting the bed for over 10 years now. Even the stans act like MS is so irrelevant it needs to take away COD from Sony to be competitive.

Halo Infinite released under his watch. No games in 2022 happened under his watch. Even after all these acquisitions, it seems like only the Bethesda titles seem to get release windows. And I see people talking about things like BC, as if previous consoles didn't already have native BC, plus MS abandoned the program to enhance old games late last year. Even Game Pass isn't a new idea nor one that Phil came up with.

This is really just a participation trophy. The only thing Phil has done is play the PR game for years.
