Hey, I hear ya...
The kicker for me is that when folks hear/see "Hispanic" they assume....
....mestizo.
When "hispanic" also means.
Either way I'm from Alabama so....
Most Mexicans have African ancestry but in very small amounts (almost always less than 10%), so they would never be thought of as "black" based on phenotype Latinos here in Texas fall in 2 categories...usually:
Strong Native American features, darker skin, jet-black hair, always either really short in height or a bit above average (5'11"+) - think George Lopez. Personal experience, these types are usually pretty chill. Some even speak Spanish, English and a Native dialect. Usually clocking 50% Native blood or higher.
Strong southern Euro features...basically looks like some kind of "off-white" or even like a light skinned Pakistani/Indian. A lot of Latinos fall into this category. They might be 20, 25 even 30% Native American. Usually what we see on American TV as "Latino."
The really white Canelo Alvarez-type Mexican usually has $$$ so they don't need to immigrate to the States. If they do, it's because they're trying to hit up a certain university or something. Actually work with a lady who's family is from Mexico City. Looks like a dark-haired Irish broad but she's straight Mexican....whole family looks the same way. Not an ounce of Aztec in sight.
