Now lets address slavery in the good book.

these two people said it best. no reason for me to start speaking off the top.

do your own research before you reply. dont go off of hearsay. READ the bible. not just one script, but read the chapter before and after the scripts provided. then you might need to do a little historical research on what was going on at the time to give you CONTEXT. which is what is usually missing when people try those "gotcha" tactics when attempting to defame the bible.

lets get one thing straight before we proceed.

these covenants are only applicable for the Israelites in the time of the Mosaic Law.
CONTEXT. there was a time where there were only two types of people in God's eyes. believers and non believers(which are the same today). the difference from back then was that their were only two types of folks based on nationality. Israelites = believers= god's chosen people & the rest of th world (gentiles)- non believers. The biggest thing that changed from the O.T> to the N.T. was that now gentiles could actually become believers, without being slaves of israelites. There's a reason why throughout the bible God told the jews to not mingle with other nations. because other nations were non believers. until everything was setup properly. where we now have a situation where even non jews that live in their own country can also be believers, which therefore makes jews and the new non jewish believers brothers. that was not the case back then. This changes a lot of context about those old laws that were for the jew to abide by. so lets continue and talk about how it was back then and why it was, what it was back then.

When a Hebrew becomes a slave because of debt.

And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave. As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee. And then he shall depart from you; he and his children with him; and shall return to his own family. He shall return to the possession of his fathers. For they are My servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as slaves. You shall not rule over him with rigor, but you shall fear your God. And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have; from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves. Moreover you may buy the children of the strangers who dwell among you, and their families who are with you, which they beget in your land; and they shall become your property. And you may take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them as a possession; they shall be your permanent slaves. But regarding your brethren, the children of Israel, you shall not rule over one another with rigor.

a. You shall not compel him to serve as a slave: In the Mosaic law, if one chronically could not pay his debts, he would have to work off the debt as a servant of his creditor. But these laws command fair, just and compassionate treatment of any Jewish man so unfortunate.

b. Shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee: Not only must such a servant be released when his debt was paid, but he also must be released at the year of Jubilee.

c. And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have; from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves: Foreign slaves among the Jews did not have the same rights as Hebrew slaves sold into servitude because of debt; they could be held as slaves for life, though they had to be treated humanely (Exodus 20:8-11; 21:20-21).

Slavery was permitted in the Bible because of sin in the world. It existed before the Jews were formed as a nation and it existed after Israel was conquered. God allows many things to happen in the world such as storms, famine, murder, etc. Slavery, like divorce, is not preferred by God. Instead, it is allowed. Where many nations treated their slaves very badly, the Bible gave many rights and privileges to slaves. So, even though it isn't the best way to deal with people, because God has allowed man freedom, slavery then exists. God instructed the Israelites to treat them properly.

The Bible acknowledged the slave’s status as the property of the master (Ex. 21:23; Lev. 25:46),
The Bible restricted the master’s power over the slave. Ex. 21:20).
The slave was a member of the master’s household (Lev. 22:11)
The slave was required to rest on the Sabbath (Exodus 20:10; Deut. 5:14)
The slave was required and to participate in religious observances (Gen. 17:13; Exodus 12:44; Lev. 22:11).
The Bible prohibited extradition of slaves and granted them asylum (Deut. 23:16-17).
The servitude of a Hebrew debt-slave was limited to six years (Ex. 21:2; Deut. 15:12).
When a slave was freed, he was to receive gifts that enabled him to survive economically (Deut. 15:14) ---the white man owes black people reparations, even if they called themselves using the bible for justification of slavery. even if they treated their slaves right. they still owe black folks reparations.
The reality of slavery cannot be denied. Slaves were "slave labor played a minor economic role in the ancient Near East, for privately owned slaves functioned more as domestic servants than as an agricultural or industrial labor force."1

Old Testament laws regulating slavery are confusing to modern people, but in their historical context they provided a degree of social recognition and legal law protection to slaves that was advanced for its time (Exodus 21:20-27; Leviticus 25:44-46). We must keep in mind that on occasion it was an alternative to the massacre of a enemy populations in wartime and the starvation of the poor during famine times.Being a slave was a better then dieing of starvation There were strict laws on how a person was to be treated .This was not the same kind of slavery you think of as American black slavery .A slave owner in the bible could be killed by law for treating a person slave wrongly . A Mutually Beneficial Relationship Frequently was involved here.Fact in Bible times this was much more of an employer/employee relationship than an owner/slave situation. Even the words used to delineate between a hired servant and a slave are difficult for modern folks to comprehend .

Its not the bible that was at fault. its not Jesus or GOD. its White people/Arabs(if we're going to go hard on whites its only fair to get at Arabs too) that chose to enslave people for their own profit and treat them like less then humans.

Just because Christians are writing something, doesn't mean Christianity is the basis for those particular ideas. That's like saying Isaac Newton's Laws were based on the Bible because he grew up Christian. That's just a RIDICULOUS thing to think. But whatever man, do you.
when you have a situation where a ton of these founders were true to life thumpers. we aint talking about some dudes that may have gone to church on christmas and thats it. we're talking about bible study on wed. friday men's meeting, saturday childern's youth services. sunday worship ALLLLLLL DAY LONG. wake up reading the bible. go to sleep reading the bible. thats what kind of dudes a lot of these guys were.

here's what i'm saying. there's a reason a person like you would be scared to death if a bunch of preachers were in congress and one was also the president. because you would automatically assume. OH BOY here we go. these thumpers are about to turn everything into something they feel is correct(moral/ethical) based on their BELIEFS.

now again there's really no reason for us to argue this point. cause as of today like we both know. half of that overt religion stuff wont even fly no matter if it was a law or something they said or not. like the state stuff i posted where they said no non believers in office. we know that wont fly today. its a different time period. the people have spoken. they aint haven that anymore. so it is what it is. and that has nothing to do with whether or not i agree with that or not. cause if you ask me. just saying "i'm a believer" means nothing to me. show me by your actions. treat all men equal first and foremost mr white man. mr everybody man be ethical, fair, moral in your conduct even when the cameras are not on. but not only that, when making choices for us the people do so with compassion first. not with you job in mind or money on your mind.

I'm familiar with the bible, and the context in which slavery existed. What it seems like you're saying with this post is since it was possible for gentiles to become brothers with hebrews after Christ's death, then that made enslavement of non-jews a sin, correct? For a lot of these people, the slaves weren't believers in their god, so to them they were completely biblically justified to enslave them. "From the nations around you, you may buy male and female slaves". You say white people enslaved others for their own profit... well, when a Hebrew served as a slave to repay a debt, was that not also for profit? In the bible, you can beat your slave as you wish, as long as he didn't die within a day or two. How is that treating a person HUMANELY?

Who specifically are you talking about? You keep talking in generalities, and you never directly answer a question. Who specifically are you talking about, and where did you read that this was the life they led?

here's what i'm saying. there's a reason a person like you would be scared to death if a bunch of preachers were in congress and one was also the president. because you would automatically assume. OH BOY here we go. these thumpers are about to turn everything into something they feel is correct(moral/ethical) based on their BELIEFS.

What are you talking about? Almost all of today's politicians believe in some sort of god, many of them are extremely religious ... some of them deny scientific fact because they think it conflicts with their theology. We LIVE in the world now with extremely religious people in Congress. I understand it, and as far as I'm concerned, as long as they don't overtly try to enforce their religious beliefs on us all, it's okay. You don't seem to understand that someone can be religious, but not make law based on their PERSONAL RELIGIOUS BELIEF.

now again there's really no reason for us to argue this point. cause as of today like we both know. half of that overt religion stuff wont even fly no matter if it was a law or something they said or not.

Exactly. But why is this? It's because the founders specifically wanted to make sure "religion specific principles" couldn't be enforced by law.

like the state stuff i posted where they said no non believers in office. we know that wont fly today.

It won't fly today because there have been court rulings that deemed these laws un-constitutional. They conflicted with the very first thing the founders sought to protect ... a persons right to be religious or not. Government cannot prohibit the free exercise thereof.

you're reading it out of context again.

thats what i posted the two quotes and not just one.

what i'm telling you with what changed from the OT to the NT is that those were old laws for the jewish people ONLY. it applied to them and them only. but the thing is this, they were thee Only believers at that time. those laws are no longer for the jewish people in this post mosaic law(N.T.) in addition they are no longer the only believers. that changes everything.

now onto "is that treating someone humanely." remember what dude said. slavery is only here because of SIN. God never intended for anyone to be anyone's slave per se. i mean truth is we are slaves of God. we are his servants. but he thru his son has also SERVED us(we're just assuming you believe in all that for arguments sake). i scratch your back you scratch mine.

no on has to ever lay hands on anyone because without sin everything would work properly. you would never be a nation of non believers. you would never be at war where your people have to be either taken into captivity by the jews and put into slavery so at least they can have a roof over their heads and a hot meal. or face the world without the men that were probably mostly killed in battle. out there wondering in the wilderness on your own. you will surely die. these things would not be necessary if sin never entered into the equation. just like divorce wouldnt be necessary if sin was not in the equation. this is a key thing even a lot of believers dont understand. there are some things that were and still are allowed by God. but he only allowed them because of how bad off the world is. all due to sin. sin is the cause, the effect is slavery, divorce, babies dying, good guys losing, hardworkers not getting paid while wall street shysters ball out, etc.

So when you look at the bible thru that prism. you will understand a lot of that so called crazy stuff that went down back then. i mean God telling them to whipe out everybody, women and children in some cases. how bad were a group of people that the entire lot needed to be wiped out? pretty bad. it means they dont want any al q's coming out of the young boys that grew up watching their fathers lose the war. and they grow up despising you, just waiting until they're of age to spite you. but to the lay person all you see is "oh no God told them people to kill innocent babies. thats chess, not checkers. there's a larger picture to be dealt with. this thing aint pretty. or i should say its No longer pretty thanks to our original forefathers(adma & eve). again this is all assuming you believe in that stuff for arguments sake). cause if you dont we're having a worthless conversation.

a quick google search of many of the quotes posted by rapbeats will tell you how they are often mangled and reformed to fit a certain purpose

aaaaand he just justified biblical genocide

please, rational people, stop engaging him. let him cook, it's his right, but it's our right as intelligent and thoughtful people to let him cook in silence, or at least in his own echo chamber

You right. It's just sad, really. When otherwise perfectly moral people are okay with atrocities .... smh.

every single quote a non believer can post and pull from some atheist site or some atheist guru can be said to be mangled and changed to fit a certain purpose. we are on two different planes. i said it in the beginning. it is what it is. you can call yourself rational intelligent all you like if that makes you sleep well at night. no where did i justify biblical genocide. once again, people running with stuff to fit their agenda. you ask a question. you get an answer. then you spin the answer. i mean. why ask the question? well we know why. but i wont go back over that again. see you guys try to pull out these gotcha questions. and usually you get people with them. you are not the first or the last with these exact same questions. just like i'm running to the pre quotes. so are you. why do you think their are pre quotes already out there? because people like you are saying the exact same things over and over. and from time to time someone actually answers your question. you dont see that coming. so the best you can do is pull the "i'm smart, i'm logical. you're not" card. which is the trump card you are always holding from the start. you ask questions not to actually know. just to say "see..gotcha" nothing more, nothing less. So who's the real troll.

again if you are so intelligent how on earth did you read all of that into my previous post? lol. that goes back to what i just said above. you spin what someone says even though its plain and simple what i told you in the other reply. Yet you will make up your own answer to fall in line with your agenda to bash the bible. when someone says SIN has created these atrocities, not the actual bible. you flip that and say "oh what a shame, you are okay with all these atrocities." thats not what i said at all. the atrocities are a consequence of Sin.

now lets look at it from your angle. if you dont believe in a supreme being. and you believe we're more or less random occurrences that dont have a purpose. then what do you care if children die young, or the so called good guy comes in last place? your answer for those situations should always be the same answer cameron gave in paid in full "nuccas get shot every day B"

aka STOP CRYING SHH happens.

but naw that would make too much sense. yall get ultra sensitive and want to run to believers when something bad happens to good people/ children/women. "see, wheres your God now."

uhh why do you care? why are you even worrying about it? if there's zero purpose and we're just random occurrences. who cares if some 1 year old dies tomorrow..RIGHT non believers?
go ahead and spin it to save face. i'll let yall get the last word in.

I didn't read this thread and I don't even know who rapbeats is, but all I see is essays so :heh:somebody is pissed ...
essays means someone is pissed. lol. maybe essays means someone actually is addressing the questions asked point for point. and giving a serious explanation so no one can be confused about why said poster said what he did.

when did it become "ay... he mad" when someone gives a full explanation vs a tweet or a :heh:.

:smh: @ this whole thread. Atheist wanting to get a Christian banned for speaking on the Bible. Wouldn't it just be better to put him on ignore, you know, instead of ironically acting the same dogmatic way that religious people behave? :stopitslime:
