The point with these things is a hook. Something that draws attention and something that keeps people engaged.
In the UK for instance, an old man was able to raise millions for the NHS by walking laps around the his nursing home.
Doing something that will connect with people with a pledge to donate 10k would draw attention.
The next step is utilising your social circle. I imagine most people are connected to someone who knows someone famous, or just knows them directly. They're not going to help out for no reason, but if it is a cause that has drawn attention and has your commitment to it (25k from a working man is a sign of sincerity) they would.
only a person who has experience in business would understand the power of a dinner meeting...

You are snitching on yourself. Most businesses go bust within the first 3 years because they experience cashflow difficulties.
No one would advise you to blow 50,000 on a dinner with Jay-Z. Only way that would be an option is if you were in a situation where losing 50k was less than a pin prick to your overall financial situation.

1. you not losing 50k if you take the meeting... you never had the 50k in the first place... you not gonna file that 50k as a loss on the books
2. blowing 50k is different than not receiving it...
3. for a person who believes that a conversation could lead to more business even if not directly with jay, not receiving 50k is worth it
4. my businesses have been going longer than 3 years.. overhead is low
5. the NFL deal a few developer clients are working on could get me more than 20k just charging them to layout a presentation and discuss it with jay. I think im going to record a conversation and act like I can get a meeting with him and see what amount i can pull for it... make it a little experiment for yall
