Even if some scholarships are withdrawn, don't the boosters donate enough money to fund players? The booster dollars could substitute for withdrawn scholarships, yes?

No bowls? Is that a huge problem for PSU? Do they get as far as bowl games EVERY year? Will top HS players shun PSU if no bowls are possible for x years?

This NON-death penalty doesn't cripple the "football is paramount" culture that enabled JoePa to veto his superiors & that enabled Sandusky to run wild/free.

I'll visit this audible forum to gain perspective.

Yes, on every question.

Bowl bans are 100% about money. The school not getting bowl apperance money, the players not getting bowl gifts, the coaches not getting bonuses based on bowl berths...3 bowls is probably like $30 million not going around the university

And they go every year to at least an outback or gator level bowl

1992 Joe Paterno Won Fiesta Bowl
1993 Joe Paterno Lost Blockbuster Bowl
1994 Joe Paterno Won Citrus Bowl
1995 Joe Paterno Won Rose Bowl
1996 Joe Paterno Won Outback Bowl
1997 Joe Paterno Won Fiesta Bowl
1998 Joe Paterno Lost Citrus Bowl
1999 Joe Paterno Won Outback Bowl
1999 Joe Paterno Won Alamo Bowl
2003 Joe Paterno Lost Capital One Bowl
2006 Joe Paterno Won Orange Bowl
2007 Joe Paterno Won Outback Bowl
2007 Joe Paterno Won Alamo Bowl
2009 Joe Paterno Lost Rose Bowl
2010 Joe Paterno Won Capital One Bowl
2011 Joe Paterno Lost Outback Bowl
2012 Tom Bradley Lost TicketCity Bowl

So, since 92 theyve missed 3 bowls....thats a lot of money breh...and getting no revenue from 3yrs of home games? They may as well have death penalty...unless theyre winning 11 games a year aint nobody gonna even consider sending their 17 year old (and many commit at 16 to penn state. The more i think about it, the more i realize theyre over. They might be like MINNESOTA where we talk about how good they were, until we dont even do that in the future.

But conferences still get the money gained from BCS bowl games and redistribute it throughout the conference to each conference member. Even if PSU got a bowl ban, Penn State would still get a slice of that money...

Also, most bowl games payouts (except the high profile/BCS games) dont even cover the expenses of traveling to go play that game. When you think about all that, PSU might come out from a bowl ban in good shape financially

Death Penalty for Penn State....

i had an argument with a guy at work about this. His reasoning was that the criminal activity of Sandusky shouldn't hinder the future incoming player students that would be on scholarship at Penn State.

My argument is 1. kids that were gonna be on scholarship at Penn State would get that from another Big 10 school or even a ACC school if need be. Besides its CLEAR based off the actions of the campus that people arent going to Penn State for the "education".

2. The massive cover up is more than enough to bring the hammer down. If the incident was isolated and Sandusky was caught then perhaps no. But imagine if this was the government, and the Secretary of State (JoePa) was informed by and Aide that HIS STAFF MEMBER had been raping children...do you have ANY idea how many people would be calling for the head of the legislation. The whole event shows ineptitude, loyalty to MONEY and FOOTBALL OVER THE CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY, and most of all the general apathy of the entire TOWN towards the victims. I'm sure if it was the little brothers of some of those idiot students the story would be different....

the whole ordeal disgusts me.

Penn state isnt the type of school that has trouble selling bowl game tickets. And thats still less positive exposure for the program, and 1 less pile of bowl money to go around the conference, no bowl bonuses or gifts, etc. It matters.

And penn state athletics isnt TOO WORRIED about being "in good shape financially." even now.

Thanks for the perspective, Ed. Bowls are a big deal cuz big $$$, but PSU is can still fund footballer scholarships internally.

Why is CBS talking about the NCAA penalizing BOTH PSU's football regime & PSU itself? Other athletic departments might be affected? Leave women's tennis ALONE! >:T They never did nothin' to nobody.

Well...they cant legally fund schollarships "internally" because all scholarships are funded by the college....if youre talking about giving out scholarships under the table then, well they COULD but they could already do that and if they get caught they'll get insane punishment....

Ncaa could punish all intercollegiate penn state programs if they wanted but they wont...thats silly even for this. In theory, all other sports programs in iths athletic department are subsidized by penn states football program, so if they got a death penalty they WOULD be punishing other sports...CFB is one of the few revenue generating sports programs for any school and penn state holds up the rest of the schools sports and boosts its endowment and research money.

..this, friend, is what fuels peoples desire to hide child molestation for decades. Its so demonic.
