i'm kind of in the middle on this. i used to think "the one that invites should pay" but i feel like women are kind of being slick about this...

most women in the thread are saying if the man invites her, he should pay. But if the man says to the woman "Want to go see a movie?" why exactly should he pay? he didn't say "want me to take you to a movie?" he just asked her if she wants to see a movie. Why is the invitation implied?

It is not hard to grasp the principal of footing the bill if you invite someone to a date. The first date doesn't necessarily has to be expensive. If you plan things out a head of time and look for coupons and restaurants that have dinner or lunch special, you will spend little amount of money. Also, a picnic at the park is cheap. You can go to Publix buy two sub sandwiches and some drink for less than twenty bucks. A walk at the beach is free. If you want to keep it simple, you can go to Starbucks and buy a couple drinks. There are so many things you could do on a first date without having to spend a lot of money.

shortcuts are never more efficient when dealing with human beings. that's how people end up wasting years of other people's lives. do the investigating early on so you can decide if the person is worth it. you only spend money if you see value. seeing if a person is valuable or not is easier early on. once you stick with someone over time and don't know what your investment is worth, it's hard to tell whether you like this person or you just fukk with them because you're around them so much.
