i have never even heard of bet islands, so its not a shock they folded up. they probably didnt have adequate capital to begin with. books lost 3-4 million in the month of november, absolutely. shyt we lost more than 4 million one week :krs: but no way any book in vegas is 7 figures in the hole from august to now on their overall handle. we held a couple % below what we usually do, and we are still up in the well into the eight figures since 1st week of preseason football

:yeshrug: what can I say, I like betting a lot and study how the whole industry works in my spare time. It's a hobby of mine, I guess you could say.

My sport of choice is the NBA, but NFL is profitable in the right situations, but this year it's been really, really tough to call. The reality is, if you really wanna profit off of sports, you don't make the biggest plays on the prime time ones.

These ones are where Vegas makes their money, but if you bet on the obscure games where you can make a play that isn't affected by shyt tons of money, then you're good.

For me, these bets are strictly entertainment. I used to bet a lot (way too much :snoop:) on the NBA every night, but those days are behind me. I just like to do it small time now to try and make some extra spending money/make a game interesting.

But the NFL has been a killer this year. A big time Costa Rican sportsbook (Betislands) actually went broke officially days after that Texans-Pats game. :pachaha:

So yeah, that game was a prime example of how the books got murdered this season. They made some of their money back, but the estimates are that Vegas lost a couple million in sportsbook money this year.

:lawd:

Yup, I don't really like betting on the NFL playoffs cause to much money is affecting the spreads. Mostly just small amounts I have made over the year.

My choice for betting is college football. A little NFL at the start of the season. Actually I have not really bet that much this year on the NFL since Harbs declined a safety in the first 9ers seahawks game which would have covered the 9ers -8.5.

LMAO at that Book going down over that Texans Pats game. I did not bet on that game. By I remember seeing the spread swing, and just thinking something is up.

But is it a bad year for the NFL? Are you guys up what you would normally be? Or is that just some bullshyt I heard?

depends on your definition of "bad." youll hear people in the gaming industry mad about not winning more. they consider slimmer margins than usual a "bad year" even though you still hold 3 or 4% on football bets. 3 or 4% on a hundreds of millions of dollars is still a nice chuck of change. but if someone held 5% for the last 5 years, and was down to 3% this season, they would whine about it being a bad season

:manny: I just got my info from a thread on a gambling forum :lolbron:

My perception is warped though because I never pay any attention to totals, I just play sides and spreads.

@Absolut is totally right about the first couple weeks though. The amount of fukked up things and the replacement refs scared a shyt ton of people away from betting for a little while cause people kept getting screwed.

To pitch in, while everyone and their mom is wagering on the NFL playoffs, the so-called sharps are betting on college basketball, NBA, and starting tomorrow, NHL. To most sharps, it's easier to find that one game oddsmakers are wrong on midseason than during playoff time. Too bad most books don't offer CBB totals this year though...
