His actions were irresponsible. Nothing wrong with reevaluating and examining one's beliefs, but make sure your ability to provide for your family doesn't take second place in the process. He knew the consequences of his actions and chose to pursue a reckless course regardless as if he were single and his actions only affected himself. This guy's story isn't anything to marvel over or celebrate. He should have obtained employment away from the church before outwardly expressing his atheist intentions and pursuits.
