This is kind of stupid.
You either believe in god or you don't, it's not a choice. You can pretend to believe in god when you really don't (or vice versa) but you can't really just choose to change your mind on a whim. Just like you could pretend/say that 1+1=3 but you wouldn't be able to actually make yourself believe it.
Sounds like he was already an atheist (or at least had some doubt) and finally decided to roll with it.

of course it's G-d's fault. Everything done in this world is a part of his plan. Human's do not have free will or the ability to change G-d's plan. Therefore, this man lost his faith because G-d wanted him to lose his faith. He is no longer a part of the flock.
