Just some random thoughts the morning after that debacle...read em or don't
This is a poorly coached team. Has been for YEARS. But this organization rots from the head down. We ALL know this. Saddest part of it is, there is NOTHING that will be done.
Jerry still owns and runs this team, sadly. Next head coach will be a guy who sucks up and lets Jerry meddle, has been since Parcells. Jerry wants the credit, the teams' success isn't enough for him (unlike Robert Kraft) HE needs to be the guy.
Jason Garrett has been retained about 3-4 years too long. Again, indicative of another problem, Jerry's loyalty gets in the way of success. Yeah, he'll change the coach, but it's too little way too late. This team has played exactly the same each year since Garrett has been coach. Can't handle success, poor planning and conditioning, undisciplined...don't matter the record, it's always the same. I mean, I can't stand the guy but Stephen A says it all the time "Just wait, they'll disappoint, they always do" and it's TRUE. Everyone but the owner and GM sees this...
Next coach will be...it doesn't matter. This team is happy with mediocrity, has been for a while. As long as the owner and GM's ego is stroked and we make money, we good...Look at the teams with sustained success, look at their blueprint. Not scared to make tough decisions, good X's and O's gameday coaching, well conditioned, puts players in position to make plays, disciplined. Teams like the Ravens, Pats, Pack, Steelers,Saints...also have good/elite QBs at the helm. I argue we won't ever (as long as JJ is alive) have a coach to the likes of those teams...Tough, gritty, and won't take ish...that intrinsically butts heads with Jerry Jones.
It's hard to look at QBs like Russell (especially), Watson, and Mahomes, hell, even Darnold doing what they do week in and out. Then you have to turn and look at our QB play so damn up and down. He was a 4th round pick and a solid one at that, no steal or undervalued...just a solid 4th rounder and he's playing like it. Yet he was clamoring for almost $40Ms. It's evident the differences between Dak and those guys. Not saying he can't be successful, but we need coaches who will hide his deficiencies. Still can't read defenses, inaccurate in spurts...just can't put the game on his shoulders and take it over. He says all the right things, but ownership has a REAL decision to make at the end of the season. Pay the guy and tie your boat to him or cut him loose and start over with another guy...both have their pluses and minuses...again, that's why the hire is so important..
This defense...smh, the b*stard stepchild of this team. Spend all the money on the offense (that can barely score)but give scraps to the defense. Pay guys generational wealth who only hear their names/numbers when they have backbreaking penalties called against them. Safeties (well, safety lol) who are try hards and are constantly out of position...but they play with heart and are RKG (right kind of guys)...literally be stingy with this side of the ball. Have coaches want/BEG for SCRAPS and TRASHHEAP guys because he found a rare gem or two in the past. You get what you pay for (in most respects) and the defense shows it. This team just stinks of mediocrity, the stench is strong and growing...everyone knows it, what will be done?
IDK, i got nothing else...I mean I got plenty but I'll leave it there...SMH, I'm not even surprised, I'm just sad b/c I don't see anything different in our future. THIS is our reality and has been for almost 2 decades. We are allergic to success. What little we do get, is fleeting and inconsistent. Sigh, I'm over it.
