Eagles won without anybody notable in their secondary or linebacking corps. Malcolm Jenkins and that's probably it. And I thought he was pretty overated then.

Giants won both of theirs without anybody notable in their secondary. Entirely pass rush.

Atlanta would have won and I don't think their secondary was that much better than ours right now.

I don't think secondary is the problem. I don't think we can matchup with Gordon, Brown, and Edelman anyways. Nobody can. You just need decent pass rush at times and a consistent offense.

Eagles won with Nick Foles... They had to score 40 to do it, but hey, that's today's NFL. And I get that the Pats didn't have Gordon and Brown then, but there's just no way you can accrue talent in a few weeks to matchup against that. It has to be done with scheme or keeping them off the field. You're not covering NE on defense this year.

I haven't heard much from Minkah in the pros. Don't know if he's any good. Alabama track record with DBs is shaky. Barron, Kirkpatrick, Milner, Ha Ha either busts or just whatever at best.

Only Landon Collins and Eddie Jackson stick out to me.

I don't think Minkah is anymore immune to getting abused by Edelman and Brown or Cupp, Cooks, and Woods or Thomas and Smith or DJax or Agholor/Jeffery running short/intermediate routes than anyone else we have.

Pats have invested heavily in their secondary. Gilmore, McCourty bros, Chung.

Seahawks and Broncos won rings recently with a stacked secondary.

Yeah, it helps. But it's not the only way. And teams have won with serviceable, non-elite secondaries, both in the past and recently.

We're not going to get Talib and Harris Jr duo or Sherman and Earl duo overnight. And I don't think trading a 1 or 2 for Minkah is going to be the final component to shutting down the Rams and Eagles and Saints and Patriots.

I'm down with a 3rd and a 5th, though. But not a 1 or 2. He's not Lattimore or Ward. He ain't Derwin or Adams. And in all likelihood, he'd probably come here and look like every other DB we've had in the last 10-15 years outside of 2018 Byron Jones, who majority of the fanbase isn't even sold was for real or not.

If our front 7 can't put Eli on his ass and gives him a clean pocket to throw to D2 receivers, Minkah ain't gonna make any difference.

We dont have the DL the Eagles or the Giants had

Our DTs suck and our pass rush is still average

Not only that, acquiring Minkah isnt just about this season. Byron is most likely gone and AB shouldnt get another contract here regardless how he plays. Next season, that leaves us with Chido and Jordan Lewis in the last year of their deals and nothing else...

So it sounds like DLine/pass rush/scheme is the problem. Getting another guy in the secondary, even if he's above average, wouldn't resolve giving Brees/Goff/Wentz/Brady/Mahomes all day to throw in modern soft NFL. That's the point I was trying to make.

Giants made Brady uncomfortable. Seahawks made Manning uncomfortable (intentional grounding = safety on the very first play I believe?). Broncos made Cam uncomfortable. Eagles made Brady uncomfortable.

And for the CB depth/contracts, I support acquiring him. For a 3rd/4th and a 5th. But I wouldn't part with a 1st or 2nd, definitely not a 1st. I don't think Minkah is some supreme, highly coveted slot corner. Future 1st round draft picks have higher value as trade assets than guys like Minkah who may or may not have flashed a few times in a forgettable year for a forgettable team. Who's also now asking out. Dolphins have no leverage. Can't be giving up a 1st to them for a disgruntled player who has already tanked his own trade value.

This isn't KC dominant Marcus Peters asking out. And the Chiefs only got a 4th and future 2nd for him. Peters lead the NFL since he came into the league in INTs at the time of the trade. So heeeeeelll no I'm not giving up a 1st for Minkah if I'm the FO. And almost assuredly not a 2nd, either. Dude played 1 fukking year and is already disgruntled and he doesn't make enough plays, highlights, or news to act like he has that kind of pull.

I heard and saw about Denzel Ward and Derwin James all season last year. Minkah... couldn't even tell you what jersey number he wears.

I'm more worried about Chris Thompson than AB tbh

A three-year starter at Alabama, Fitzpatrick played the appropriately named “STAR” defensive back position in Alabama’s defense, a hybrid nickel cornerback role. There are six defensive back positions in the Nick Saban’s secondary and he played them all (Saban: “I don’t ever remember having anybody that’s played all the roles he’s played here and done it as well as he’s done it.”). A football lifer, Fitzpatrick is an extension of Saban on the football field and rarely gave up impact plays on tape due to his movement skills and smarts. He needs to clean up overaggressive bad habits, but he never stops looking for an edge. Overall, Fitzpatrick graduated from Alabama with a master’s degree in Saban’s defense, boasting the athletic versatility, conceptual instincts and flawless character to play
any position in the secondary, projecting best as a nickel cornerback, who can make the transition to a full-time outside cornerback.

Dude is a baller who just unfortunately went to a shytty organization.

1. The pass rush/Dts is a complete separate issue from what we are speaking about breh. Its obvious we will never value the 1-tech position as long as Marinelli is here.

2. A 3rd wont be enough to acquire him. We are talking about a former top 10 pick that was solid as a rookie and has position-flex. He can play safety AND corner. Id rather use a first on that then a Taco Charlton anyday. And yes i know we acquired Frederick with a late first but that was an outlier

3. Dolphins have a lot of leverage because he will be highly coveted. They can simply wait it out or flat out keep him if they wanted. Hes cheap and still young.

4. Marcus Peters had low trade value because of attitude/character issues.

5. He is disgruntled because of uncertainty of what his role is

6. Ok he isnt as good as those two, but whats your point? He would walk in here and be a top-2 corner on this team. Need I remind you of where Byron Jones was at in his 2nd season? It takes time for DBs to flourish and he is only in his second season
