Arum: We've Heard Mayweather is Not Looking Great
Posted by: Ronnie Nathanielsz on 3/31/2015 .

By Ronnie Nathaielsz

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Manny Pacquioao, has been told that Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t as impressive in training as his handlers and a couple of sparring partners claim.

In a conversation with BoxingScene.com/New Standard, Arum, who once handled the career of Mayweather said: “The reports we are getting is that Floyd is not looking great.”

He, however, pointed out that there is still plenty of time before his showdown with Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2.

While a very short video of Mayweather showed him pounding an unidentified southpaw sparring partner, while another identified as 27-year-old Don Moore claimed Floyd hits really hard, Pacquiao’s Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes he has the faster, more talented young sparring partners.

In fact, Moore, who has a record of 17-0 with 11 knockouts, is a lightweight, who according to boxrec.com, has fought only once in 2012 and once more in 2013 against mediocre opponents.

He scored a four-round unanimous decision over Alfredo Guarneros, who had a record of 5 wins against 9 losses, with 4 knockouts on Nov. 3, 2012 and won by a first-round TKO over Reymundo Hernandez, whose record was 6 wins as against 14 defeats, with 6 wins by knockout, on Nov. 22, 2013.

Don Moore is exhibit A as to what a padded record looks like brehs:heh:

Yes, he's 17-0 with 11 KOs, but his opponents have a combined record of 51-149-5 :scusthov:

What kinda work can Floyd be getting from sparring partners like him, Corley, and Zab "Super Washed Up" Judah to prepare him for Manny Pacquiao?:dahell:

No wonder Floyd is KOing everybody:mjlol:

Hold up boxing heads, are sparring partners supposed to throw specific offenses to mimic an opponent or they there to test the fighter? If a sparring partner KO'd Floyd, he'd get fired, sued and negged, no? That's why all this "oh so and so is looking great, dropped a sparring partner" has me
:whoa:

I don't have a problem with what he said. Ali would say the same shyt about himself. It's not up to Floyd to rank fighters in the end, that's left to those paid to observe the sport.

I dont recall hearing stories about Muhammad Ali disparaging Jack Johnson, Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, or Joe Louis though breh:comeon:

Floyd was always out of line for bad mouthing SRR and Muhammad Ali.

if a sparring partner ko'ed floyd..most likely he'd be let go from the camp or floyd would run that back and would really try to beat his ass..thats pretty much about it

Sparring partners are there to provide "work"....keeping you sharp and helping you go over different things you and your trainer are trying to implement. Also, some mimic the opponents style. Think "Scout Team QB".

However, the stories about Floyd looking great and KOing his sparring partners are being put out to infleunce the media and cause a since of second-guessing on Pacquiao's part. Problem with those stories is, Floyd is beating up washed up versions of boxers he already destroyed in his prime and "undefeated" lightweights with padded records.

It's all mind games until May 2nd from both sides.

I meant just in regards to Boxing like Floyd does with Ali. If he has, I stand corrected, but I have never heard about Ali disrespecting them like Floyd does Ali.
