Who said he wasn't in the hood? There's a big difference between living in the hood and being in the streets. He was a square and there's no shame in that. That's just the truth about his life. People get up in arms when that's said like it's a slight on his character when it's not.
When I say he latched on I'm just saying he chose to associate with these guys at a level that he shouldn't have. Everyone in the industry at the time crossed paths with gangsters but most of them were smart enough to say what's up and keep it moving. You might see them at a club but you don't hang around them otherwise. Biggie told him to stay away from them. Richie Rich told him not to fukk with Suge. Ice T told him not to get involved with any gang banging. He made a deeper association despite other's advice and that was his decision.
He got too close to Jack, Jimmy, and Suge. Jimmy set him up and he took bullets behind that. He caught a case and jail time fukking with Jack. He died getting involved in piru/crip beef.
Bottom line is stay away from the wolves if you aren't one.
