Yay!!! Let's bring mandatory business to the health insurance corporations that put greed above compassion!!!

Idiots. You should be demanding real socialized medicine and a single payer system and you are cheering for forcing people to make these greedy companies even more powerful. Give them MORE lobbying money.

Take a quick look at Footnote 11, which is on page 44 of the slip opinion: Those subject to the individual mandate may lawfully forgo health insurance and pay higher taxes, or buy health insurance and pay lower taxes. The only thing that they may not lawfully do is buy health insurance and not pay the resulting tax.

Tom:
In Amy's 10:56 -- typo: The only thing that they may not lawfully do is not buy health insurance and not pay the resulting tax.

That's a very important point. That weakened the law. If individuals (really the young and healthy people) don't get pooled in and just pay the tax, then the pooling will become imbalanced. The only way this type of law can work if you get enough participants to pool their risks.

The opinion has some real good economic breakdown in it too, didn't expect that. Look at this breakdown:

It is also undisputed that people are uninsured for a wide variety of reasons. The uninsured are spread across different income brackets:

(1) less than $25,000: 15.5 million uninsured, or about 31%;

(2) $25,000 to $49,999: 15.3 million uninsured, or about 30%;

(3) $50,000 to $74,999: 9.4 million uninsured, or about 18%;

(4) $75,000 or more: 10.6 million uninsured, or about 21%

So out of the uninsured they got data on 30.8 million or 61% is uninsured with an income of $49,999 or less and 20 million or 39% is uninsured with an income of $50,000 or more. Those are interesting stats. I'd thought it was more bottom heavy like around 80/20 for middle income and working poor to upper income to higher. Granted there are more variables not presented like COL and the states where they reside (Sorry this was just interesting stats that didn't have to do with the actual opinion, ha)

It looks like if you live in one of them 26 states that sued to get this to the supreme court, don't expect those states to expand their medicare now. I'll read the rest of the opinion later, but the plan was banking on the medicare expansion to pick up more of the risky uninsured as well. ------
The Act's Medicaid expansion alone will cover 9 million of the 50 million uninsured by 2014 and 16 million by 2016.[fn15] The Act's health insurance reforms remove private insurers' barriers to coverage and restrict their pricing to make coverage accessible to the 9 to 12 million uninsured who were denied coverage or had their preexisting conditions excluded.[fn16] The Act's new Exchanges, with significant federal tax credits and subsidies, are predicted to make insurance available to 9 million in 2014 and 22 million by 2016.[fn17]

:wtf:

Poor people are still exempt from this law. There is an income threshold. You will still be paying for them.

Do you even know what you are supporting?

We didn't have enough votes for the single payer system moron, only democrat progressives were voting for that provision of the healthcare bill. The democrats had to go with the second option which was the individual mandate to get enough votes.

How do you not know this?

so who's paying for this?

bleh

It's going to be at the expense of everyone else's health care. We are already having a shortage of health care providers. Paying doctors less to cover more will create more shortages and less health care.

I need numbers broken down...like can you give me an exact example?

Lets say u go "fukk insurance", then in 2014 the feds will deduct about 1% of income or around $95...that figure will go up to 2.5% or over $600 around 2016 and beyond....only if u still choose to say "fukk insurance".

Use this site to get an estimate on what u will be paying post 2014: Health Reform Subsidy Calculator - Kaiser Health Reform

liberals are happy because its the best we could do with the situation we had, conversatives are just a whole bunch of mindfukkery.
