I thought De La Soul would have next, but this is dope

Is the Rock n Roll hall of fame even a big deal? I remember hearing about it much later than the Grammys or Academy awards. It wasn't on t.v like that. When I read up on it I learned it was established for a long time - and major artists seem to WANT to get in to it. But I always felt like earning a Grammy or Oscar was a much bigger achievement.

Is being in there a major sign of achievement? I also looked at it as "Rock and Roll" and why rappers would even care to be inducted. Yet I always see threads here of people excited for it.

If someone can please explain it's significance to me.

Thank you

I hear you, especially on he pop songs that seemed like she didn't write - not sure if she is a writer. But the fantasy video and track with ODB is a classic. And while she was a Diva - she completely seemed to have a genuine and loving friendship with ODB.

From ChatGPT

Musicians want to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because it’s one of the highest honors in the music industry. Being inducted means recognition for their influence, innovation, and lasting contribution to music and culture. It validates their career, often cements their legacy, and can introduce their work to new generations. It’s also a sign of respect from peers and critics, and for many, it symbolizes that their work has truly stood the test of time.

Okay, I respect that. Especially as recognition for standing the test of time.

Mariah writes the lyrics to all of her music and is in the songwriters HOF

Like Mariah

Always found it interesting tho how she isn't called out more
Mariah is an interesting case. I think she's very talented BUT she is hella flawed. I think her biggest problem is that her artistry is a joke.

When you really think about it - she came in the game and was marketed as the white girl who somewhat sounded like Whitney. And then when she started doing hip hop, she admitted she was trying to be like Mary J.

And then her "songwriting" is overstated. She been writing the most pedestrian songs. And you can tell her artistry isn't really what people think it is because she's merely reduced to a Christmas act these days. That's all she's known for. That Queen of Christmas shyt is nothing but a gimmicky joke but that's what she reduced her legacy to because she was never really a substantial artist.

I doubt she ever gets in. I think the next female singer that gets in will be either Badu or Toni.

Outkast were eligible like 6 years ago (25 years since your debut) but only this year they got nominated and got in?
Also cool to see Salt N Pepa get in but man...I feel like theres still a few hip hop people who can get in cause the criteria isnt as super mainstream as I thought

If Tribe Called Quest, Salt N Pepa, Missy Elliot and Kast can get in then surely Wu-Tang, Snoop, Busta, Wayne and Nas are eligible
