Oscars About to Add A New Major Category

So the "Best Urban Contemporary Album" category has always seemed redundant AF. The Grammys basically created that category so they can hand out more nominations & awards to R&B/Urban albums and to ESPECIALLY minimize/avoid having to nominate them for "Album of the Year" & "Best Pop Vocal Album".
Artists like Rihanna, The Weeknd, & Beyonce stay getting nominated for "Best Urban Contemporary Album" now instead of "Best Pop Vocal Album".

Anyway this is stupid. They demean the best picture and whomever gets this award all in one move. You're admitting the best picture isn't popular and then giving a popular movie the equivalent of an MTV movie award
The easiest way to do this is to just come out and admit the movies that get nominated (not the ones that win) are the ones with the best ad campaigns from studios willing to shell out all the money to get them in front of voters. Also, just nominate a popular movie for best picture
IF the shyt is worthy, like the dark knight or like black panther, then give it the love it deserves. They're making a simple situation really complicated and needlessly so.
Plus now you're telling a lot of hardworking people their categories aren't worthy of being aired live, even though they busted their butt just as much as anyone else and sometimes more so.

what the hell is a defining movie though.
a great film is a great film, it’s not their fault that casual movie goers can’t be bothered by anything that isn’t an action franchise or a fun family film.
this isn’t just an insult to the people that make these ‘popular’ movies, it’s an insult to the awards itself. they’re supposed to reward excellence, not popularity.
might as well just call it best action film and have categories for each genre. best drama, best comedy, best horror/suspense... cause ‘best popular movie’ sounds like a load of shyt.

Not for nothing, one reason why people dont watch them is cause we about that stream life...let people stream it, even if it cost like 5 bucks...wasnt even able to stream on the abc app or facebook, had to go by other means.

It’s really stupid. Movies like say black panther should just get a nom for best film. The whole point of 10 slots was for popular mainstream movies to at least get a nom.Sounds like it
This is yet another tone deaf move by the academy. Made up a category to give a consolation award so they can just keep filling the best picture noms with Oscar bait flicks.
